The First Snow
第一場雪
The first snow came. How beautiful it was, falling so silently all day long, all night long, on the mountains，on the meadows, on the roofs of the living, on the graves of the dead.
初雪飄臨，靜美如斯，日夜不息，山川草木，屋椽塋冢，一片潔白/銀裝素裹。
All white save the river, that marked its course by a winding black line across the landscape；and the leafless trees, that against the leaden sky now revealed more fully the wonderful beauty and intricacies of their branches. What silence, too, came with the snow, and what seclusion! Every sound was muffled, every noise changed to some thing soft and musical.
闊野之中，唯餘溪流，逶迤前行，枯木虯枝，灰黑天幕，愈顯虯枝崢嶸/縱橫。初雪，何其沉靜又何其寂寥！萬籟俱靜/寂，了無聲息，似作輕音遼遠。
No more tramping hoofs, no more rattling wheels. Only the chiming of sleigh-bells, beating as swift and merrily as the hearts of children.
馬跡難尋，車軌不在。雪橇叮噹，歡快和諧，似頑童心音悅動。
附另一種譯文：多美啊,初雪飄臨.它整日整夜那麼靜靜的飄著,撒向山巔,鋪滿草地,落在生者的屋脊,降在逝者的墳塋.在一片茫茫之中,只有彎彎曲曲的河流,留下道道黑線,裝點出一幅美麗的畫圖.那葉兒落淨的樹木,映襯著鉛灰色的天空,盡顯它枝椏交錯,姿態萬千.初雪飄落時,何等安寧,多麼靜謐!萬籟無聲,把一切聲響都化作那柔和的音樂.再也聽不見馬蹄噠噠,再也聽不見車輪轔轔!唯有雪橇的鈴聲,奏出和諧的音樂,那明快歡樂的節拍就像孩子們的心房,咚咚地跳動.
