雖然綠色象徵欣欣向榮
但綠色在漢語並不怎麼受人待見
比如嚇得臉都綠了，以及綠帽子……
不過“green”在英語中的待遇可不大一樣

green girl
green girl 不能理解為“綠色的女孩”，這裡跟短語“green hand”表示的意思是一樣的，是“生手，沒有經驗的人，黃毛丫頭”的意思。
例句：
She’s still a green girl. She doesn’t know how we operate around here.
她是新手，還不知道我們這兒怎麼操作。
She is a green hand at such things.
做這樣的事她是個生手。

the green years
green可以用來表示“沒有經驗、缺乏訓練”，the green years 指我們常說的“青春年華”
例句：
Her memory is impeccable. She’s still in her green years. Not like me, I forget what I ate for lunch yesterday.
她的記憶力超好，她還年輕。不像我，連昨天中午吃了什麼都忘了。
同樣的，在“a green old age”裡，green是指青春時期。所以該短語的意思就是“老當益壯”。
例句：
Fromthe appearance, we can see that the old man is still in a green old age.
從外表看，我們能看得出這位老人仍然精神矍鑠。

green-eyed
從字面意思看意思是“眼睛綠了”，其實不然，它恰恰是我們中國人常說的“眼紅”的意思，所以眼紅大家可千萬不要翻譯成“red-eyed”。
這裡的綠色green在英語中可以表示“嫉妒、眼紅”的意思。
類似短語還有：green with envy，green as jealousy，green-eyed monster都是指“十分嫉妒”的意思。
例句：
I could be your green eyed monster.
我可以是你善妒任性的妖精。
His brother's success made him green with envy.
他兄弟很成功，這讓他十分嫉妒。
