Nowadays many adults have full-time jobs and the proportion of their lives spent doing such jobs is very high. So feelings about one’s job must reflect how an individual feels about his or her life as whole, and because of this, job satisfaction is indeed very important for the wellbeing of that person.

Employees get job satisfaction in a number of ways. Firstly, a person needs to feel that they are doing valued and valuable work, so positive feedback from superiors is very important in this respect. A sense of fulfillment is also encouraged if a worker feels the job is worth doing because it contributes to the society or the economy as a whole. Secondly, when someone feels they are improving or developing their skills through training opportunities, for example, then is a sense of progression and purpose that rewards a worker. The sense of belonging to a team or a working community also contributes to job satisfaction because colleagues help each other to enjoy their working lives. Satisfaction is also increased by a sense of responsibility for and loyalty to a team.

Of course not everyone enjoys their work. Hard economic realities mean that many people have little choice in the kind of job they can get. In some cases an employee is working in a job that suits neither their skills nor their personality. Some jobs are repetitive and boring, and labour relations may be poor and lead to resentment and insecurity rather than to job satisfaction.

However, even though it is unlikely that all workers do feel happy in their work, I think it is not unrealistic to promote more job satisfaction in any job. If the factors identified above are implemented, then any job can be improved and more workers can feel greater degrees of job satisfaction.

現在許多成年人都有全職工作,他們花在這些工作上的時間比例很高。所以一個人對於自己工作的感覺肯定會反映出該人對於自己生活的總體感受,因此工作滿意度的確對於幸福感的形成至關重要。

員工可以從很多方面獲得工作滿意度。首先,一個人需要覺得他做的工作有價值並得到尊重,所以在這方面上司的正面反饋就很重要。如果員工覺得他的工作有助於社會或是整體的經濟、從而是值得做的,那麼他就會有成就感。其次,當人們覺得通過培訓等機會他們的技能可以得到長進或發展的話,那麼就會感受到收穫,取得進步並達成目的。團隊或是工作群體的歸屬感也有助於工作滿意度,因為同事之間互相幫助,享受工作生活。對於團隊的責任感和忠誠感也能使得滿意度提高。

當然並不是每個人都能享受工作。嚴峻的經濟現實意味著許多人在他們能得到的工作類型方面沒有什麼選擇。有時候,員工從事的工作既不適合他們的技能,又不符合他們的性格。一些工作重複而乏味,勞資關係不佳,與其說是帶來工作滿意度,不如說是導致怨恨和不安全感。

但是。即使所有的員工不太可能在工作中都感到快樂,我依然認為在任何工作中推動實現更多的工作滿意度並不是不切實際的。如果上文提到的各個要素能夠得到實施,那麼任何工作都能得到改善,會有更多的員工在更大程度上實現工作滿意度。
