Lesson 53 An interesting climate
Where do you come from?
I come from England.
What's the climate like in your country?
It's mild, but it's not always pleasant.
The weather's often cold in the North and windy in the East. It's often wet in the West and sometimes warm in the South.
Which seasons do you like best?
I like spring and summer. The days are long and the nights are short. The sun rises early and sets late. I don't like autumn and winter. The days are short and the nights are long. The sun rises late and sets early. Our climate is not very good, but it's certainly interesting. It's our favorite subject of conversation.

二、每課一句
The weather's often cold in the North and windy in the East.
本課繼續學習一般現在時的用法，而且側重的還是一般現在時表天氣和氣候的用法。
只是，本課除了繼續學習表達天氣和氣候的句型“- What's the climate/weather like in...? - It's...”以及季節和月份的表達以外，還新增了方位的表達，即：
in the East
in the South
in the West
in the North
注意，此時的“東南西北”四個方位的首字母要大寫，並且表泛指時，方位前要加定冠詞。
除了以上四個正方位的表達，還要注意四個偏方位的表達，即：
in the Northeast (東北)
in the Southeast (東南)
in the Northwest (西北)
in the Southwest (西南)
也就是說，英語中偏方位的表達跟漢語是反過來的。
三、更多拓展
The days are long and the nights are short. The sun rises early and sets late.
要注意學習本課中出現的晝夜長短和日升日落的描述，即：
The days/nights are long/short.
The sun rises/sets early/late.
【注意】
1、“白天”除了用day來表達，也可以說daytime，比如“在白天”可以說“in the day”或“in the daytime”。比如：
I cannot sleep in the daytime.
我白天睡不著。
2、“日升”和“日落”的名詞表達分別為sunrise和sunset。比如：
It's almost sunset, but it's still so hot.
太陽已經平西了，還這麼熱。
