Try to write these yourself, I think Chinese faster for these words
人 man 门 door 市 market 迄 until
一 one 二 two 三 three 十 ten 之 leave for
十一 eleven 廿 twenty 卅 thirty
山 mountain 天 Sky 云 cloud
马 horse 车 car 马车 carriage
日 sun 异 different 同 same 从 follow
兵 weapon 甲 armor 示 show
工 work 工人 worker
码 code 农 peasant 码农 programmer
已 already 未 not yet
上 fuck 干 fuck 中 middle

While some words English is faster
赢 win 输 lose
肏 fuck(入 enter 肉 flesh) 餐 meal
Be advised. These characters can be replaced by other ones. Easier or harder to write. I choose these to explain it better.
Some characters are designed after English words
泵 pump
砼 concrete (can you guess what does石mean?)
sometimes one character one word.
It's also important when you sometimes combine a couple of strokes together.

PS: The Chinese before 20 century (ancient Chinese) is much more simple than mandarin(modern Chinese), and which is interesting enough, the ancient chinese has some grammar really resemble english to some extent.
This is part of a ancient Chinese book《老子》。
道可道，非常道；The Way that can be told of is not an Unvarying Way；
名可名，非常名。The names that can be named are not unvarying names.
无名天地之始； It was from the Nameless that Heaven and Earth sprang；
有名万物之母。The named is but the mother that rears the ten thousand creatures，each after its kind.
故常无欲，以观其妙；Truly，'Only he that rids himself forever of desire can see the Secret Essences'；
常有欲，以观其徼。He that has never rid himself of desire can see only the Outcomes.
此两者，同出而异名，These two things issued from the same mould，but nevertheless are different in name.
同谓之玄。This'same mould'we can but call the Mystery，
玄之又玄，众妙之门。 Or rather the'Darker than any Mystery'，The Doorway whence issued all Secret Essences.
