Every country tends to accept its own way of life as being the normal one and praise称赞 or criticize批评，责备 others as they are similar to or different from it. And unfortunately遗憾地，不幸地, our picture of the people and the way of life of other countries is often a distorted扭曲，歪曲（真理，事实等），误报，弄歪（嘴脸等） one. Here is a great argument争论，辩论，论点，意见 in favor of 赞成，以…取代foreign travel and learning foreign languages. It is only by traveling in, or living in, a country and getting to know its inhabitants居民，居住者 and their language that one can find out what a country and its people are really like. And the knowledge one gains收益 this way frequently turns out 结果是to be very different from the secondhand information gathered from other sources! How often we find that the foreigners whom we thought to be different people from ourselves are not very different after all. Differences between people do exist and, one hopes, will always continue to do so. The world will be a dull 无趣的，呆滞的，阴暗的place indeed when all the different nationalities国家，部落，民族 behave表现 exactly准确地 alike同样的, and some people might say that we are rapidly迅速地 approaching接近，动手处理；n.方法，途径 this state of affairs事态、情势.With the much greater rapidity迅速 and ease of解除 travel, there might seem to be some truth in this at least as far as Europe is concerned担心的.However this may be, the greater ease of travel today has revealed显示，揭示，暴露 to more people than before that the Englishman or Frenchman or German is not some different kind of animal from themselves.
