Sarah’s fourth book, “Wild by Nature”,came out recently. It tells her wonderful hiking experiences alone in nature that took her from one end of the world to the other. There are many bear attack(攻击) stories that have been in the news over the last few weeks. Most experts agree that a person should play dead with grizzlies(灰熊), and fight back when it comes to black bear attacks.

But the brave young lady in Michigan, who was attacked by a black bear, was saved after she played dead. However, an Alaskan man wasn’t able to get help so quickly after another bear attack this past weekend.

The man from Alaska had to wait for someone to bring him to a hospital. And luckily he received necessary care from a hunter(猎人) while he was waiting. The attack happened at 5pm on Thursday, and the man was finally saved around 3 on Saturday morning.

The second story makes me consider what it would be like after a bear attack and not receiving medical attention right away. The most famous true story like that is the story of Hugh Glass. Glass was attacked by a grizzly in August, 1823 during a trip. Glass walked 100 miles with a broken leg. He managed to keep alive on wild plants.

How do you keep alive? You need the ability to stand great pain. If you can’t get help in time, you’d require knowledge and medicinal plants to avoid infection(感染). Yarrow is a good choice, and it can be found across the country.

( ) 25. Most experts think that .

A. black bears are more dangerous than grizzlies

B. people should run away quickly if they see bears

C. grizzlies never attack people lying on the ground

D. we should fight back when attacked by black bears

A. More than 10 hours.

B. About 20 hours.

C. Over 30 hours.

D. About 70 hours.

( ) 27. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A. Grizzlies are native to the US. B. There are few black bears in the US.

C. Glass failed to get help quickly after the bear attack.

D. The lady in Michigan couldn’t move after the bear attack.

( ) 28. “Yarrow” is probably the name of a .

A. hospital

B. hunter

C. wild animal

D.medicinal plant

It does not have to be January 1st to give yourself a chance to make the most out of your day. Every day is a new day and a fresh start to learn, grow, develop your strengths, free yourself from past regrets or hurts, and move forward older and wiser. Every day gives you chance to reinvent(彻底改造) yourself. It is never too late to change things that are not working in your life.

Each day is a new beginning and a piece of blank paper. How would you like to create your day? If you wake up in a negative mind, you are more likely to paint a dark picture throughout the day, and your picture will not show hope, happiness and joy.

If you take each day to think actively, and have a positive intention(意图) for how you would like to create your day, how would your life different? What can daily positive intentions do for you? Every day you will give yourself the gift of an “attitude of gratitude(感恩态度)”.

Each day is a chance to look at things in a different way. You can experience each day in the beauty of the world—and the beauty of you who is in it! You find yourself changing from “I can't” to “I can”. With a focus on positive intentions, you feel you are full of power and more like a “winner” than a “loser”.

You pay more attention to the present, and will be more likely to live fully in the present each moment of each day. After all, the past is a great place to visit, but you don't want to live there! So how about starting each day taking a moment to think of a positive intention for the day?

( )29. The first paragraph mainly tells us ________.

A. we should make every day a new start

B. January 1st is the most important day

C. learning is helpful in reinventing ourselves

D. we needn't change ourselves at all

( )30. The underlined word “negative” in Paragraph 2 probably means ________.

A. not clear

B. not wise

C. not happy

D. not careful

( )31. If you have daily positive intentions, you will ________.

A. get a positive result

B. have a busy life

C. get gifts from others

D. be a complete loser

( )32. From the passage we can learn that ________.

A. past regrets or hurts can make you older and wiser

B. think actively and you will be a winner, not a loser

C. the present is not where you should live for ever

D. positive intentions for each day are of great help

D

To discipline(管教) children is not an easy thing. Take a look at some of the lessons for parents and some of the mistakes they must avoid.

Waiting too long

Sometimes, we wait too long for a certain rule to be followed. For example, a rule such as “putting your shoes back” gets broken very often. In the hope that the child will behave, we keep giving the child too much time to learn. The child considers this instruction unimportant so it can be easily forgotten. If you tell your child the result of putting the shoes back, it might help.

Long speeches

This is a common mistake. Giving long speeches, necessary solutions and advice can destroy your relationship with your child. Yes, it is a good idea to talk things through with your child. Instead of making it a speech, make it a conversation. Ask your child what exactly happened.

One solution fits all

With the experience got from an older child, parents believe that they are ready to take on another task at disciplining. In fact, every problem has to have its own different solution. Each child has a different character. Treating them differently will make all the difference in their growth and your relationship with them.

Teaching good behavior needs a team effort. Patience, love and a positive attitude are the basic things of every discipline method you may choose to take up.

( ) 33. In order to make the children follow their instruction, parents should .

A. try to forget their mistakes B. wait and let them see the result

C. let them understand their mistakes alone D. tell them the result right away

( ) 34. According to the passage, giving long speeches to children is .

A. uncommon

B. useless

C. meaningful

D. helpful

( ) 35. In this text the writer mainly wants to show .

A. why children often make mistakes B. how to make friends with a child

C. how to discipline a child D. why children often argue with parents

One Sample:

Everyone needs friends. Friends make us happy and warm. Without friends we will be lonely. So it’s important to make friends.

But how can we make our friendship last long? Firstly, we need to get on well with our friends. Try to know them well and help each other often. Secondly, we are supposed to share our things with friends. Listen to them patiently and keep their secrets. Thirdly, we’d better keep in touch with friends often. Remember to call them and greet them at least once a week.

In my opinion, the more good friends you have, the happier you will be. So let’s learn to get on well with our friends. Then our lives will be better and better.
