我父母一见钟情，快乐幸福地走过了53年时光。父亲很浪漫，也很幽默。他随便讲的故事都能给我们的生活增添无限乐趣。

For example, my father often talked about the first scene he talked with my mother when he returned from Japan after World War II. At that time, he was driving his brother's car through the town, when he caught a glimpse of my mother entering a furniture（家具） shop.

比方说，父亲总谈起他俩第一次搭话的场景，当时二战结束，父亲从日本回国。他开着哥哥的车路过镇上，这时，瞥见了走进家具店的母亲。

He stepped on the brake, jumped out of the car, quietly slipped into the shop and stood beside my mother. At that time, my 26-year-old mother was making the shopkeeper show her a set of bedding she took a fancy to last week.

他踩下刹车，跳出车来，悄悄溜了进去，站在母亲旁边。 当时，母亲只有26岁，上周她看中了一套寝具，店主正拿给她看。

My father, just an acquaintance strolling（闲逛） by, paced to her and said, “I say, Maud, we can't sleep on the two single beds!”

我父亲假装是闲逛路过的熟人，踱步走到母亲面前说：“我说，莫德，我们可不能睡在两张单人床上！”

Three months later, they got married. As a result, they really had to sleep on the double single beds until they had enough money to buy the double bed.

三个月以后，他们结婚了。结果他们还真就睡在两张单人床上，直到后来有了钱，才买了双人床。

At the age of 78, my father had an open-chest surgery. My 76-year-old mother was in the hospital to take care of him all night and accompanied him at his bed every day.

78岁的时候，父亲做了开胸手术。我76岁的母亲整夜在医院照顾他，每天在床前陪伴，不离左右。

When the doctors removed the ventilation（空气流通） duct（输送管） from his throat, the first words my father said were the most romantic language I ever heard,

医生帮父亲拿掉喉咙里的通气管时，他说的第一句话是我听过的最最浪漫的语言：

“Maud, do you know what the doctor found when he cut my chest? He found your name was carved in my heart.”

“莫德，你知道医生给我开胸之后发现什么啦？他发现你的名字就刻在我心上。”
