在英語中，連詞的用法是一種比較重要的語法現象，我們都知道連詞是一種虛詞，一般用於連接單詞、短語、從句或句子，起到轉折、並列，遞進等作用，在句子中通常不單獨用作句子成分。今天，我們就來探討一下連詞or的相關用法。
1、表示選擇，意為“或”“還是”：
Are you coming or not？
你來還是不來？
Shall we go out to the cinema or stay at home?
我們是出去看電影還是待在家裡？
You can have ham, cheese, or tuna.
你可以選擇火腿、乾酪或者金槍魚。
2、用在否定句中，提出兩種或多種事物時，表示“也不”，相當於否定句中的“and”：
He doesn’t have a television or a video.
他沒有電視機，也沒有錄像機。
Sonia never cleans or even offers to wash the dishes.
索尼婭從不收拾整理，甚至都不會說她來洗碗。
3、表示一種否定的條件，避免壞的結果，意為“否則”：
I had to defend myself or else he’d have killed me.
我只得自衛，否則他就把我殺死了。
You’d better hand over the money, or else.
你最好把錢交出來，不然的話夠你受的。
4、表示對某個數量或數字不是很確定：
The boy was three or four years of age.
這男孩三四歲。
I saw Donald leaving a minute or two ago.
我看到唐納德一兩分鐘前離開的。
There’s a motel a mile or so down the road (= about a mile or possibly a little more ).
沿這條路一直走，到大約一英里的地方有家汽車旅館。
5、表示一種
推斷，假設He must be at home, or his car wouldn’t be here.
他肯定在家裡，否則他的汽車就不會在這裡。
It’s obviously not urgent or else they would have called us straight away.
這事顯然不急，否則他們當即就打電話給我們了。
另外，or組成的一些短語也是我們經常見到的，如：
now or never 勿失良機
more or less或多或少
believe it or not 信不信由你
