在英語裡，句子的基本結構有以下五種：
1：主語+謂語（SV）。
如：Day dawns. 天亮了。
2：主語+謂語+賓語（SVO）。
如：Ruth understands french. 露絲懂法語。
3：主語+謂語+間接賓語+直接賓語（SVOO）。
如：He told us the whole story. 他把全部經過告訴了我們。
4：主語+謂語+主語補語（SVC）或主語+聯繫動詞+表語（SLP）。
如：He died a poor man. 他窮困而死。
Tom’s father is a professor. 湯姆的父親是一位教授。
5：主語+謂語+賓語+賓語補語（SVOC）。
如：He found George intelligent. 他發現喬治很聰明。
