对于商家来说，对格局的定义就是消费能力，比如
旅游要有格局，要出国旅游才能放大的你的格局。
女人要有格局，爱马仕的包，蒂芙尼的钻戒，迪奥的口红，PRADA高跟鞋，这就是有格局。
中文里的格局其实是一个很宏大的词，在不同的使用场景中意思都不同，不能用一个英文单词来翻译，视实际意思采用不同的英文表达。
格局很有可能来自围棋，象征着棋局上的每一小格和棋子走在格子上影响的整个局面，英文中有一个词landscape很接近这个意思，本意是大视野下的风景。
牛津词典的解释是：
everything you can see when you look across a large area of land, especially in the country.牛津词典
同时也有局面的意思，柯林斯词典的解释是：
A landscape is all the features that are important in a particular situation.柯林斯词典
很多时候出现landscape的地方都是翻译为「格局」：
- global landscape 全球格局
- political landscape 政治格局
- economic landscape 经济格局
说做事很有格局的时候，是指纵观全局，做事有大局观，而不只是纠结于一些鸡毛蒜皮的小事，英文中也有对应的词，叫 big picture。
「做事要有格局」全句的翻译是 You need to look at the big picture。
「有格局的人」是 a person with big picture thinking或者直接说big-picture person。
「格局很小的人」 a person with small picture thinking或者直接说small-picture person。

说建筑物的格局的时候，又是另外一回事，其实指「布局」，英文是layout。
