A kite soared to the clouds and called out from on high to a butterfly down below in the valley. “I can assure you that I can scarcely make you out. Confess now that you feel jealous when you watch my so lofty flight.”
一隻風箏飛入雲端，在高處衝下面山谷裡的一隻蝴蝶喊： “我告訴你，這兒高得我幾乎快認不出來飛在下面的是你了。承認吧，看我飛得這麼高，你嫉妒我。”
“Jealous? No, indeed! You have no business to think so much of yourself. You fly high, it is true; but you are always tied by a string. Such a life, my friend, is very far removed from happiness.
“嫉妒你？才不是呢！你快別高看自己了。沒錯，你是飛得高，可是繩子拴著你呢。朋友，你這種生活離幸福差得遠哪。
I'm little elated, but I can fly wherever I wish. I don't like to spend all my life on someone else's amusement.”
我是沒你那麼神氣，不過我想往哪兒飛就往哪兒飛。我可不想一輩子都供人消遣。”
如果幸福的代價是犧牲自由，這種“幸福”無疑不值得追逐。
