rub,指“搓,磨,擦”動作,還有“觸痛,惹惱”含義。所以 rub in / rub it in 表示“反覆講(別人不願聽的事),(故意)觸人痛處,傷口撒鹽,雪上加霜 ”
I know I made a mistake but there's no need to rub it in.
我知道自己做了錯事,可也不必老提這個。
You're rubbing in by mentioning my wife's name.
你就是在故意提我妻子的名字。
2.He knows how to slip a tail.
他知道擺脫跟蹤的技巧
slip, 我們學過有“滑倒,溜走,失誤”意思,在這裡作及物動詞指“擺脫,掙脫”
The dog slipped its collar and ran away.
那條狗掙脫了頸圈逃走了。
tail, 除了指“尾巴”外,在不少美劇裡面多表示“跟蹤,尾隨”(名動詞)
She can not figure out who put a tail on her.
她猜不透誰派人盯她的梢。
He tailed the spy to his hotel.
他跟蹤那間諜到他住的旅館。
3.He thinks the bureau's barking up the wrong tree
他以為局裡查錯了方向
bark, 剝(樹皮),bark up the wrong tree 為固定搭配,常用表達指“弄錯/認錯目標,錯怪了人,捕風捉影”
Mr. Smith may bark up the wrong tree if he thinks he can fool her.
如果史密斯先生認為可以愚弄她的話,那他就認錯人了。
She thought I'd made the report to the police, but she was barking up the wrong tree.
她認為我已報了警,然而她錯怪了人。
