廣州越秀老區裡，某個不起眼的街角，你可能會不期而遇“瑤·咖啡”。它是藏在老街深處的一抹白，微微探出鋼板招牌，清清冷冷地用小篆書了“瑤”一字。如果略微粗心，你可能就此錯過一個特別的咖啡館，以及會為你特製咖啡的Mario。
Yao Café is a special work, about dream, family, and love. I’m not a designer, but a dream maker.
In some unimpressive corner at Yuexiu old district, Guangzhou, you may meet Yao Café suddenly. It hides in the deep and stretches its sign made of steel plate. On the sign, the character“瑤”was written in “Xiao Zhuan”, an ancient Chinese>

設計師鄭小館說：將“瑤·咖啡”從理想搬進現實，經歷了一波三折。我將這理解為“好事多磨”。細細磨礪的咖啡更香；經過時光磨礪的“瑤·咖啡”，更有溫度和情懷。為了最大化呈現生活感，他採用最古樸原始的元素：白色+純水泥。不論是天花裸露的面貌，還是白漆的外觀，都最潔淨地呈現自我，與周圍格格不入。晚風拂過，風移影動，珊珊可愛。
Lauren Cheng, the designer said that, before bringing Yao Café into from dream into reality, we experienced ups and downs. And I take that as “The road to happiness is strewn with setbacks”. Coffee after fine grinding smells better. Yao Café that experiencing time has more temperature and emotions. To show life as much as possible, he utilized the most ancient and original factors, i.e., white and cement. Either the bare ceiling or the white appearance, shows their true face, which is different from the surrounding. When night wind flows, shadows move. Cute and poetical.

「為什麼是“瑤”？」
「Why named “Yao”? 」
瑤，是店長Mario女兒的名字，是石之美者。女兒奴Mario的朋友圈，十有八九都是曬女兒。而Mario的媽媽鍾愛咖啡，但總是隻能喝速溶咖啡。為了讓媽媽喝一杯好咖啡， Mario開始研習這種飲料。漸漸地，他從一無所知的小白變成咖啡的追夢者。在希臘語中“Kaweh”（咖啡）的意思是“力量與熱情”，也許正因這種魔力，原本木訥少言的Mario變得侃侃而談、甚至會給每個人配咖啡。後來，當萌生做個咖啡館的念頭時，他第一時間就想到了“瑤”。就這樣，“瑤·咖啡”便應運而生了。
Yao, the name of Mario’s daughter, and a kind of jade. Almost Mario’s moments in Wechat is about his daughter. Mario’s mother likes coffee very much; however, often, she could drink instant coffee. To let his mother enjoy good coffee, Mario started to explore this beverage. Gradually, he became a dream-chaser from a novice. In Greek, Kaweh means power and passion. Maybe due to this magic power, Mario became conversable from reticent. Later on, when the idea to make a café came into his mind, he immediately thought about “Yao”. In this way, Yao Café came into being.

“瑤”字，凝結了Mario和上一代、下一代的情感。正如龍應臺說的：
我慢慢地、慢慢地瞭解到，所謂父女母子一場，只不過意味著，你和他的緣分就是今生今世不斷地在目送他的背影漸行漸遠。你可以說：“孩子你慢慢來”，可是有時候，快快地“放手”或許也是必要的。我知道，這很難，難極了，但是如果你記得我們兒時的甜蜜時光……
如果時光不可逆，Mario想用“瑤·咖啡”來製造回憶。因這故事而動容的設計師，落筆作圖時，也將溫暖、熱愛、家傾注其中。乍一看，這裡十分粗糲冷淡，其實，設計師用燈光暖化這種“冷”，把暖意藏近了隨處可見的燈光裡。
The character 瑤 gathers the emotion between Mario and his mother, and his daughter. As what Long Yingtai, a famous Chinese writer wrote:
Gradually, I noticed that being parents and children only means that parents will spend their whole life watching children going far away. You can say: slowly. However, sometimes, let it go may be necessary. I know, it is difficult, extremely. But if you remember our sweet time in childhood…
If time is gone forever, Mario wants to retain memory by “Yao Café”. Touched by the story, Lauren input warmth, love, and passion into the design. At the first sight, you may think it is rough. In fact, the designer utilizes lights to warm up, and hide warmth behind the lights.

「初見瑤·咖啡」
「First Meet Yao Café」
如若你從外面的街角看去，會恍惚地以為那被光影圈著的所在，在周邊古樸破落的掩映下，堪堪就是一塊無暇美玉啊！沒錯，基於“瑤”這個keyword，鄭小館運用筆挺的光影縈繞咖啡館，正如匠人在石頭上精心切割出美玉一般。招牌是用4mm厚的鋼板製成，深藍為底，小篆一筆一劃地寫了“瑤”字。初見第一眼，你可能不知道“瑤”到底是什麼。可它就是倔強孤傲地挺立著。那從秦始皇時期沿襲下來的小篆，以圓為主，圓起圓收，方中寓圓，圓中有方，使轉圓活，富有奇趣。空間分割均衡和對稱是篆書的獨特魅力。不僅如此，設計師還精心處理了字體，將筆畫向外拉，像味蕾得到滿足的舌頭。倘若你是清晨到訪的，那你便會邂逅Mario的早餐。透過可開可閉的摺疊窗，你可以看到臉圓圓的Mario正在小而精緻的工作臺忙碌。以純手工的窗，敬純手工匠人。
If looked from the corner, Yao Café is like a perfect jade surrounded by the shabby surroundings around. Lights and shadows circle the “jade”. Based on the keyword瑤, Lauren Cheng used straight lights to surround the café, just like an artisan cut a piece of jade from a stone. The shop sign is made by 4mm-thick steel plate, with dark blue as background. The character瑤was written in Xiao Zhuan, a kind of type passed down from the Emperor Qin period. Xiao Zhuan looks interesting and lively. It is typical for equal space division and symmetry. Moreover, the designer also processed the type sophisticatedly, by pulling the strokes out and making it like a content tongue.If you come in the early morning, you will meet Mario’s breakfast. Through the folding window, you can see Mario’s round face and he is working in his workbench. Hand-made windows respect craftsman.

「深入瑤·咖啡」
「Go deeply in Yao Café」
推門而入，上空的燈橋最為矚目。藍色木作，始於玻璃門、穿過會議室、路過洗手間、落腳於大廳、最後迴歸原點——門。燈橋的走向正如人生的起伏：隨著時光流逝，人生階段不斷推進，當來到這一刻，薄積厚發的能量噴湧而出。傾瀉而下的燈光就像迸發的能量，象徵光明，讓人看清當下，不迷失方向。
Open the door and your eyes will be caught by the light bridge. Along with the blue batten, the light starts from the glass door, across the meeting room and toilet, and arrives in the lobby, finally the starting point – door. The journey of the light bridge is like the ups and downs in life: as time goes by, life periods march further. When this moment arrives, accumulated energy blossoms. The dumping lights are like blossomed energy. They stand for lightness and enable people to see reality clearly.

再向下一些，燈橋穿過三塊玻璃，從藍色漸變成灰，最後融入灰色的地板。這也是“瑤·咖啡”最重要的部分——讓不同身高的人都能舒適而立，站著喝咖啡。你可以和三兩好友輕靠柱子，相談甚歡。
Downer, the light bridge crosses three pieces of glass, and the batten changes from blue to gray. This is the most important part of Yao Café – let people in different height stand comfortably and drink coffee. You can lean on the pillars and chat with friends happily.

低處盛開的茶几和凳子也十分可愛。茶几是黑色烤漆玻璃製成的六邊形，介於方圓之間，透出一股中庸、平衡之道。凳子也是設計師親手設計的，和灰色的牆體相融，帶著天生的自然親近。
The end tables and stools are cute too. End tables are made of hexagonal black paint glass. The shape hexagon is in the middle of square and circle, which illustrates a kind of moderation and balance. The stools were also designed by the designer, which integrate with the gray wall and show friendliness.

沿著這片灰色向上看，你會驚詫於大喇喇裸露著石頭的天花板——這也是設計師故意為之的，讓石頭本身的樣子一覽無遺。這座老樓經歷了四十年的時光，時光的痕跡讓人沉醉，也最真實。被時光雕刻的水泥天花板自帶家的親近，消除距離感。客人彷彿在拜訪朋友家，而非一場平平無奇的交易。
Look up along with the gray, you will be surprised by the ceiling with bare stones – this is also what the designer did on purpose. He wanted to show the initial and original face of the stones. The old building has experienced forty years. The marks of time is charming and the realist. The concrete ceiling brings close feeling at home and diminishes feeling of distance. When coming in, clients are like visiting a friend instead of making a deal.

更深處，是多功能會議室：拉上摺疊門，人們可以開會、聚會、甚至獨處；拉開摺疊門，又是“瑤·咖啡”裡的另一個角落，你可以旁若無人地發呆、放空、冥想。
More deeply, there is the multi-functional meeting room. When closing the folding door, people can have meetings, gather, or even stay alone. When opening the folding door, this is another corner of Yao Café. You can be in a daze, banish yourself, or think as you like.

設計師說：洗手間也是店內純潔的一面，它很重要。於是他用純潔的線光作為唯一光源。洗手盆採用建築用的防水防曬木板，保留它原有的紅色和亮度——這也是設計師前所未有的嘗試。這些紅色木板圍繞成方形，靜默地表達著態度和格局。
The designer said that toilet is a facet of cleanness in the store. It is important. So he utilized the pure linear light as the only light source. The wash basin is made of plank used in architecture and its red and brightness are maintained, which is also designer’s first try. The red planks form a square and illustrates attitude.

從前，他以為“唯有熱愛能抵歲月漫長”；現在，他知道，除了熱愛，還有咖啡和夢能抵歲月漫長。而設計師為它去繁就簡、去精留粗、再度設計，只“瑤”圓夢。也許，情懷和夢是最好的裝飾吧！
Before, he believed that only passion could pass time’s test; currently, he knows that coffee and dream can also do that. The designer simplified, perfect, and re-designed the coffee shop, all to realize Mario’s dream. Maybe dream is the best decoration.

好的建築，會自己說故事。就像這首日本小詩一般，Mario的“瑤·咖啡”蘊藏了他的柔情和溫暖。當燈光傾城、傾瀉而下，你環顧四周清冷的水泥空間，暖意氤氳升起……

納蘭容若：賭書消得潑茶香，當時只道是尋常。那些尋常生活中的存在，最能牽動人心。鄭小館把尋常可見的事物：水泥和白色融入瑤·咖啡之中，讓人不經意地撞近情深幾許的父女情中。藏在一器一物中的溫度，就像細水長流的親情般，跟著迂迴曲折的燈橋，溫柔地將人擁入懷中。

Nalan Rongruo, a Chinese poet said: all wonderful things were seen as normal. The normal things in daily life are what actually touch people. Lauren Cheng utilized ordinary things (concrete and white) in Yao Café, and let people bump into love between a father and his daughter. The warmth hidden in everything is like subtle but lasting family love. Along with the light bridge, they huge you in arms.
