We are searching for an Outreach Manager based in Hong Kong, and a Conservation Project Officer based in Yunnan.

Outreach Manager

Location: Hong Kong

The Outreach Manager works to provides administrative, research, communications, project management and other general assistance to program staff working toward the achievement of protection, conservation or stewardship goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Outreach Manager may organize field events, manage conservation data, participate in conservation planning, develop project packages, respond to partner inquiries and maintain manual project records. May include collecting, assembling and analyzing various types of data, in the field or through document surveys, organizing events and meetings, and assisting in the production of reports and outreach materials. Work may be done in the field, or be based entirely in an indoor setting, facilitating meetings and compiling the information.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Supervises no staff but may oversee and direct work of office volunteers or interns.
  • Coordinates multiple tasks or projects in a timely manner and with attention to detail.
  • May assist with program budget preparation and monitoring.
  • The Outreach Manager may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
  • Makes day to day decision as delegated by the supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental education, biology, ecology, natural resources management, or related field and 3 years related work experience or equivalent. combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects.
  • Experience handling standard business communications.
  • Fluent in Cantonese and English. Mandarin preferred but not required.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • 2-4 years related work experience.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently within assigned time frames.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, with assignments sometimes coming from a number of sources and work independently.
  • Ability to coordinate project information from a number of sources to populate databases, create reports and produce manual files.
  • Ability to communicate internally and externally effectively and comfortable reaching out to different stakeholders.
  • Experience utilizing databases and digital communication skills for data entry and report production preferred.
  • Strong administrative skills including attention to detail and numerical ability.
  • Ability to plan, administer and record results of work-team meetings and activities.

Conservation Project Officer

Location: Yunnan

The Conservation Project Officer develops, manages and advances conservation programs, plans and methods for small to medium scale geographic areas in Yunnan.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Conservation Project Officer provides technical leadership and support to a business unit and plans and directs preserve management programs and stewardship. She/he addresses critical threats to natural systems and individual species, fosters cross-site learning among conservation community, and supplies Eco regional planning teams with information for site portfolios. The Conservation Project Officer develops and implements conservation strategies and employs a full range of protection tools to acquire varying degrees of legal interest in land and implements a variety of strategies to secure public and private support for TNC conservation priorities. S/he coordinates community support, maintains preserve areas frequented by the visiting public and coordinates multiple projects, sets deadlines and manages completion.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Performs tasks with minimal supervision and makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and judgment.
  • Supervises administrative and professional staff with responsibility for performance management, training and development.
  • Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience in natural resource management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing staff.
  • Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, web browsers, etc.
  • Experience in training and curriculum design.
  • Must have valid driver's license.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years’ experience in natural resource management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability and willingness to apply science to decision-making and guide activities.
  • Relationship building skills to work closely a variety of partners, i.e., media, government officials, internal Scientists.
  • Familiarity with principles of land acquisition.
  • Knowledge of ecological land management principles.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management and natural resource preservation.
  • Completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
