“cold shoulder”不是“冷肩膀”
先看这样一个句子：
Jack got the cold shoulder from his classmates after he double-crossed his best friend.
怎么翻译？Jack得到一个“冷肩膀”？
事出古怪必有妖，cold shoulder不翻译成“冷肩膀”，而理解成“冷落、怠慢”的含义。
因此上面那句话可以翻译为：
Jack got the cold shoulder from his classmates after he double-crossed his best friend.
自从杰克出卖了他最好的朋友后，同班同学都冷落他。
这里，再拓展一个常用搭配：
give sb. the cold shoulder
英文解释：to be intentionally unfriendly to someone and give them no attention.
中文解释：故意冷落（某人）；有意怠慢（某人）
举个栗子：
I tried to be pleasant to her but she gave me the cold shoulder.
我努力想讨好她，可她反倒故意冷落我。
