“cold shoulder”不是“冷肩膀”
先看這樣一個句子：
Jack got the cold shoulder from his classmates after he double-crossed his best friend.
怎麼翻譯？Jack得到一個“冷肩膀”？
事出古怪必有妖，cold shoulder不翻譯成“冷肩膀”，而理解成“冷落、怠慢”的含義。
因此上面那句話可以翻譯為：
Jack got the cold shoulder from his classmates after he double-crossed his best friend.
自從傑克出賣了他最好的朋友後，同班同學都冷落他。
這裡，再拓展一個常用搭配：
give sb. the cold shoulder
英文解釋：to be intentionally unfriendly to someone and give them no attention.
中文解釋：故意冷落（某人）；有意怠慢（某人）
舉個栗子：
I tried to be pleasant to her but she gave me the cold shoulder.
我努力想討好她，可她反倒故意冷落我。
