一般過去時，是基礎英語學習的一個語法。一般過去時， 顧名思義就是指發生在過去的事情，一般過去時態中，標誌有兩個，第一個，是過去的時間，比如說昨天，去年，再比如說我三歲的時候，就是比較明顯的過去的時間。我們從中文當中就能夠感受到，那麼在過去的時間中發生的事情，就是過去時態。第二個，就是要把這個動詞改成過去式，一般的動詞過去式，那是在動詞的後面加ed,也有特殊情況，比如說和原形一樣，當然，最重要的要積累單詞，知道單詞的，尤其是動詞，動詞的過去式該怎麼寫？然後在寫句子的時候把動詞改成過去式，然後把時間也改成過去式，那麼一般，現在時態就很容易掌握了。

例如：
(1) He came here just now. 他剛才來這兒了。

(3)One day, a small monkey picked the bananas on the tree.有一天，一隻小猴子摘了那棵樹上的香蕉。
(4)Once upon a time,there was a monk living in the temple.很久以前，廟裡住著一個和尚。
二、used to do sth.過去常常做某事
例如：
She used to swim in the swimming-pool，but now she likes climbing hills.她過去常去游泳池裡游泳，但現在她喜歡爬山。
三、when 表示“這時”的意思時，句型結構：過去進行時+when+一般過去時
例如：
She was walking along the street when suddenly a car stopped in front of her.她正沿著街道走，這時一輛小轎車停在她面前。
四、其它用法
(1)句型結構：過去完成時+before+一般過去時
例如：
She had cooked supper before her mother arrived home.在她媽媽到家之前，她就做好了晚餐。
(2)句型結構：一般過去時+after+過去完成時
Her mother arrived home after she had cooked supper.在她做好了晚餐之後，她媽媽到家了。
