Dingyao is a treasure of traditional Chinese porcelain making process. It is one of the six major kilns in Song Dynasty. It is a large porcelain kiln system rising after the white porcelain of Xingyao in Tang Dynasty. It is mainly produced in Jianci village, dongyanchuan village and xiyanchuan village, Quyang County, Baoding City, Hebei Province. Because this area was under the jurisdiction of Dingzhou in the Tang and Song Dynasties, it was named Dingyao. Dingyao was originally a folk kiln, and began to make palace porcelain in the middle and late Northern Song Dynasty. The Northern Song Dynasty is the heyday of Dingyao's development. There are many innovations and progresses in porcelain making technology. In the middle and later period of the Northern Song Dynasty, Dingyao was selected as the palace porcelain because of its fine quality, elegant color and beautiful decoration.
