其实“通融一下”这个英语表达非常有意思，叫做bend the rules。
Bend的本意是弯曲，也就是别那么冥顽不灵又固执嘛，偶尔弯弯腰也没关系。
所以，用到了bend the rules表示通融一下，类似make an exception破例一下嘛。

To do something or allow someone to do something that is not usually allowed, especially in order to make things easier on one occasion.
表示做一些“通常在规则之下不被允许”的事情，特别是在某个情形下，为了让一个事情变得更简单，没有那么麻烦的时候，我们会想要bend the rules。

① - I want to return the fan, but I left the receipt in the office, can you bend the rules a little?
- Sorry, if you don’t have the receipt on you, we can’t do a refund.
-我想退掉电扇，但是我把收据落在办公室了，你能不能稍微通融一下?

② I don’t usually lend people money, but in your case I’ll make an exception.

“A rule of thumb” 是啥意思？
继续说一个跟rule相关的表达——a rule of thumb。
这个表达在口语中的出现频率还挺高，那到底是啥意思呢？
再看下英文解释：
A rule of thumb is a rule or principle that you follow which is not based on exact calculations, but rather on experience.
可以看出，a rule of thumb其实也是一个规则或者一个准则，但是它是基于你的经验而言的——也就是经验工作法则。

要知道，意大利主妇们有套经验。
