日常生活中，我们都少不了要交朋友(make friends)，毕竟朋友多了路好走。朋友有好多种，在汉语中对于朋友的称谓就特别多，如挚友，密友，闺蜜，诤友，盟友，笔友，文友，甚至还有损友，酒肉朋友，网友等等；而从交情讲，又有什么莫逆之交，忘年之交，君子之交，患难之交等。约有几十种吧。那么英语中是否有相应的对应词呢？又有哪些常见的“friends”呢？
英文friend可以翻译为“朋友，友人；支持者，赞助者；自己人，同志，同盟者；同人，阁下”等。常见的的搭配如下：
1. good/great friend 好朋友。最常用.
2. childhood friend 儿时的朋友，发小。
3. old friend 故友，老朋友。
4. school friend 校友，同窗。
5. pen friend= pen pal 笔友。
6. e-friend 网友。
7. ex-friend 以前是朋友，现在不是了。如 ex-boy friend.
8. false friend “不忠实的朋友,虚伪的朋友”；也指(与某外国语是)同音异义词。
9. fair-weather friend 不能共患难的酒肉朋友。
10. fast friend 一见如故的朋友, 也可指挚友。
11. close(st) friend 密友，挚友， 关系亲密的朋友。
12. best friend 最好的朋友。
13. bosom friend 非常亲密的朋友，知己。有句诗:”海内存知己,天涯若比邻”； 就是这样翻译的: A bosom friend afar brings a distant land near。
14. distant friend 关系疏远的朋友。
15. man’s best friend=dog. 指狗，因为狗是人类最好的朋友。
16. lifelong friend 终身的朋友。
17. trusted friend 值得信任的朋友。
18. mutual friend 共同的朋友， 即: a friend of a friend。
19. intimate friend 密友,知己,至交。 不过似乎很少用， 因为intimate有”个人隐私的”, “关系暧昧的”的意思。
20. next friend=litigation friend 法律用语。“监护人”,“诉讼代理人”，这个人是你认识的人，亲戚或朋友。
21. (my) learned friend 专门用语，议员或律师间相互称呼时用，“我博学的朋友”，“同事， 同人”。
22. (my) noble friend上议院用语，我尊贵的朋友。
常见词组/短语有：
1. be/make friends (with sb.)
2. Just (good) friend 一般朋友,区别于恋人。girl friend 或boyfriend。
3. A friend in me.内心已经把你当作了好朋友，往往说： you’ve got a friend in me.
4. Friends in high places=friends in court 位高权重的朋友。
5. Be no friend of=oppose 反对，不赞成。
6. A friend in need 患难之交.
另外英文friend还有如下同义词(synonyms)：
1. 非正式的有:
buddy ，pal，bestie，mate，chum，amigo，homey，homeboy， homegirl，roomie(=roommate) ,sidekick, fellows, crowd，offsider（Australia）
2. 正式的有:
acquaintance, (bone)companion, wingman, brother, bloody brother, comrade, connections, contact, confidant, correspondent, flatmate, housemate, roommate, soulmate, sponsor, partner, intimate, crony, interlocutor, cohort, a shoulder to cry on。

关于friend的谚语：
1. A friend in need is a friend indeed. 患难见真情。
2. Friends are kisses blown to us by angels. 朋友是天使送给我们的吻。
3. Between friends all is common. 朋友之间不分彼此。
4. A friend in court is better than a penny in purse. 与其囊中有钱，不如朝中有人。
5. Better an open enemy than a false friend.公开的敌人胜过虚伪的朋友.( 明枪易躲，暗箭难防。)
6. Old friends and old wine are best. 陈酒味醇, 老友情深。
7. A friend to all is a friend to none. 滥交者无友。(广交友,无深交)
8. A friend to everybody is a friend to nobody. 滥交者无友。(广交友,无深交)
9. Friends are thieves of time. 朋友是时间的盗贼(指交朋友是需要时间的)。
10. One can live without a brother, but not without a friend. 人生可以无兄弟，但不能没朋友。
11. Friends may meet, but mountains never greet. 山与山不相遇，人与人总相逢。
