菱花口盘始见于宋元时期，元代景德镇窑有青花、白釉制品。明代洪武时期有青花和釉里红制品，永乐宣德时期的青花制品多见，装饰有缠枝莲花、把莲、枇杷绶带鸟纹等。菱花口盘也是明朝龙泉窑青瓷的典型器物。
