菱花口盤始見於宋元時期，元代景德鎮窯有青花、白釉製品。明代洪武時期有青花和釉裡紅製品，永樂宣德時期的青花製品多見，裝飾有纏枝蓮花、把蓮、枇杷綬帶鳥紋等。菱花口盤也是明朝龍泉窯青瓷的典型器物。
