我們知道主語、賓語的表現形式可以是：
名詞（或名詞詞組）、代詞、the +形容詞/分詞、不定式、動名詞、名詞性從句、疑問詞+不定式，介詞短語也是可以充當主語與賓語的。
介詞的as後面還可以接形容詞作其賓語，如，We don’t consider a child as important。
動詞原形甚至也可以出現在介詞之後，如，There’s nothing to do but wait。
下面是具體的——介詞短語作主語、作賓語的實例。

主語，這種情況較少，如：
That day between three and four thousand shells passed over our heads.
那一天，有3000到4000發炮彈從我們頭上飛過。
賓語，如：
I’ll give you until tomorrow. 我給你期限到明天。
The eight thieves served a sentence of between 2 and 1 years.
這8個盜竊犯服刑2到7年。

介詞短語（Propositional Phrase）
From eight to twelve is my busiest time. 從8點到12點是我最忙的時間。
From Shanghai to Nanjing is about 300 kilometers. 從上海到南京大約300公里。

介詞短語（Propositional Phrase）
A rabbit ran out from under the floor. 一隻兔子從地板下跑了出來。
介詞短語under the floor作介詞from的賓語。

有時介詞與介詞也可直接結合，如：
That’s the boy from over the road. 那就是住在對過的男孩。
Come out from under there, will you? 你從那兒底下出來還是不出來？

同How about相似，在口語中，What about後面也可以接上非名詞成分。例如：
What about in the room? 屋裡怎樣啦？
