事實上，knock the door真不是敲門哦！

knock the door
如果和外國人說knock the door，人家怕是誤以為你要搶劫了。knock the door其實是破門而入的意思。
而敲門的正確表達其實是在knock the door這個短語里加個介詞，就是knock>，意思是敲門、敲門聲。
例：
The children will knock> , and shout "trick or treat" .
孩子們會敲門，吆喝著“不招待就使壞”。
answer the door
answer the door和回沒什麼關係哦！實際意思是應聲開門、聽到鈴聲去開門、開門迎客。
I wish someone would answer the door. I can't stand to hear the knocking.
但願有人會去開門。我受不了敲門聲。
open the door
open the door大家都知道是開門的意思，加上介詞to/for，意思也會發生改變哦！
open the door to sth可以解釋為向...開門、打開...的門，還可以表示為...創造機會。
而加上for，意思比較類似。open the door for sb/sth意思是為...開門、提供機會/方便、創作可能。
例：
Research>open the door to the new medical treatments.
對遺傳基因的研究將會為全新的醫療方法創作機會。
If the record is successful, it could open doors for my career.
如果這個記錄成功了，將會為我的事業提供機會。
show (someone) the door
show (someone) the door該怎麼理解呢？大家聯想一下，把門指給某人看，就是命令某人離開。所以show the door就解釋為讓離開、叫某人走開、逐客。
show the door經常用在職場上，就是被解僱的意思。
例：
I was shown the door when I asked for a raise.
當我要求加薪時被解僱了。
lay sth at>
這可不是把東西留在別人家門口哦！實際上lay sth at> lay (the blame or responsibility)>，意思是把...歸罪於...、讓...負責。
例：
You shouldn't lay the blame for the fiasco at his door.
你不應該把這次慘敗怪在他頭上。
at death's door
at death's door直譯就是在死神門口，也就是生命垂危、快死了的意思。可以搭配lie或是be，lie/be at death's door。
例：
His skin was so pale, he looked like he was at death's door.
他的皮膚如此蒼白，看上去快死了。
darken>
darken是變黑、變暗的意思，但darken>不受主人歡迎的那種拜訪，可以解釋為闖入。可以用在“我不會再來”或“不准你再來”類似的語境中。
例：
Now that I have left that home, I'll never darken the door again.
我既然已經離開了那個家，就不會再回去。
Don't darken my door again.
下次不準再來我家。
