Socrates（蘇格拉底）
A young man asked Socrates（蘇格拉底） the secret to success. Socrates told the young man to meet him near the river the next morning.
一個年輕人找到蘇格拉底，向他請教成功的秘訣。蘇格拉底讓年輕人第二天早上到河邊來見他。
They met. Socrates asked the young man to walk with him toward the river. When the water got up to their neck, Socrates took the young man by surprise and ducked（猛按...入水） him into the water.
兩人見面之後，蘇格拉底讓年輕人跟他一起向河水走去。水深沒過兩人的脖子，蘇格拉底出其不意地將年輕人的頭按進水裡。
The boy struggled to get out but Socrates was strong and kept him there until the boy started turning blue.
男子掙扎著要把頭伸出水面，可蘇格拉底力氣很大，一直壓著他的頭直到他臉色發青。
Socrates pulled his head out of the water and the first thing the young man did was to gasp and take a deep breath of air. Socrates asked, “What did you want the most when you were there?”
這時，蘇格拉底把他的頭拽出水面，只見年輕人做的第一件事就是喘氣，還深深吸了一口氣。蘇格拉底問他：“你在水下的時候最想要什麼？”
The boy replied, “Air.”
男子回答：“空氣。”
Socrates said, “That is the secret to success. When you want success badly as you wanted the air, then you will get it. There is no other secret.”
蘇格拉底說：“這就是成功的秘訣。當你渴望成功就像渴望空氣一樣迫切的時候，你就會成功了。除此之外，沒有別的秘訣。”
成功就像是一場化學實驗，如果說不懈努力是必備的實驗原料，那麼迫切的渴望就是助你“一蹴而就”的催化劑。
