《論語》
子曰：“巧言令色，鮮矣仁。”
【辜譯】
Confucius remarked, “With plausible speech and fine manners will seldom be found moral character.”
【辜講】
孔子說：“滿嘴花言巧語而舉止優雅的人，絕不是德高望重之人。”
曾子曰：“吾日三省吾身。為人謀而不忠乎？與朋友交而不信乎？傳不習乎？ ”
【辜譯】
A disciple of Confucius remarked, “I daily examine into my personal conduct on three points: —First, whether in carrying out the dut-ies entrusted to me by others, I have not failed in conscientiousness; Se-condly, whether in intercourse with friends, I have not failed in sincerity and trustworthiness; Thirdly, whether I have not failed to practice what I
profess in my teaching.”
【辜講】
孔子的一位學生（曾子，姓曾，名參，字子輿。以繼承和傳播孔子有關孝道的思想而聞名，後世儒家尊稱其為“宗聖”）說：“我每天從三個方面反省自己。第一，是否完成了別人所託付的事情，不至於沒有履行自己的承諾？第二，在與朋友交往的時候，是否能夠做到坦誠相待？第三，是否在我專長的教學方面實踐過？ ”
子曰：“弟子入則孝，出則弟，謹而信，泛愛眾而親仁，行有餘力，則以學文。”
【辜譯】
Confucius remarked, “A young man, when at home, should be a good son; when out in the world, a good citizen. He should be circumspect and truthful. He should be in sympathy with all men, but intimate with men of moral character. If he has time and opportunity to spare, after the performance of those duties, he should then employ them in literary pursuits.”
【辜講】
孔子說：“年輕人，在家應做一個孝子；在社會闖蕩，應做一個良民。必須做到謹言慎行、誠實守信。與各種各樣的人交往應當隨和，但是應當親近德高望重的人。在履行自己責任之後，如果有空閒和機會可以和別人分享，應當將這些東西以學術為目的寫出來。”
