Chapter2 第二章
At that moment some one knocked at the door.
正在那個時候，有人咚咚地敲門。
"Come in", said the carpenter, without having the strength to rise to his fee.
"請進。"老木匠說，但是他已經沒法站起來了。
A lively little old man immediately walked into the shop. His name was Geppetto, but when the boys of the neighbourhood wished put him in a passion they called him by the nickname of Polendina, because his yellow wig greatly resembled a pudding made of Indian corn.
一位神采奕奕的小老頭很快走進了木匠鋪。他名叫傑佩託，可是，附近的男孩們想要激怒他的時候，總是喊他的綽號"玉米糊"。因為他的黃色假髮很像印度玉米做的布丁。
Geppetto was very fiery. Woe to him who called him Polendina! He became furious, and there was no holding him.
傑佩託脾氣非常暴躁。誰叫他"玉米糊"可就倒黴了。他一旦發一怒來，那是沒有人制得住的。
"Good day, Master Antonia," said Geppttto; "What are you doing there on the floor?"
"I am teaching the alphabet to the ants."
"日安，安東尼奧師傅。"傑佩託說，"您坐在地上是在做什麼啊？" "我啊，正在教螞蟻識字呢"。
"Much good may that do you."
"希望您玩得開心！"
"What has brought you to me, neighbor Geppetto?"
"是什麼風把您吹來啦，傑佩託老兄？"
"My legs. But to say the truth, Master Antonio, I am come to ask a favour of you."
"我的兩條腿走過來的唄。不過說真的，安東尼奧師傅，我是來請您幫個忙的"
"Here I am, ready to serve you," replied the carpenter, getting on to his knees.
"我時刻準備著，為您服務。"老木匠說著跪了起來。
"This morning an idea came into my head."
"今天早上我想到了一個注意。"
"Let us hear it."
"說來聽聽。"
"I thought I would make a beautiful wooden puppet; but a wonderful puppet that should know how to dance, to fence, and to leap like an acrobat. With this puppet I would travel about the world to earn a piece of bread and a glass of wine. What do you think of it?"
"我想我會做一個漂亮的木偶，那種會跳舞，會擊劍，還會翻跟斗奇妙的木偶。我將和這個木偶一起環遊世界，說不定還可以掙一塊麵包，一杯酒喝喝，你覺得怎麼樣？"
"Bravo, Polendina!" exclaimed the same little voice, and it was impossible to say where it came from.
"好極了， 玉米糊！" 那個細細的聲音再次想起來，就是不知道從哪傳出來的。
Hearing himself called Polendina Geppetto became as red as a turkey-cock from rage, and turning to the carpenter he said in a fury; "Why do you insult me?"
一聽到有我叫他玉米糊，傑佩託氣得滿臉通紅，就像一隻發怒的火雞。他怒氣衝衝地轉身對木匠說:"你為什麼侮辱我?"
"Who insults you?"
"誰侮辱您啦？"
"You called me Polendina!..."
"您喊我玉米糊！……"
"It was not I!"
"那不是我喊的！"
"Would you have it, then, that it was I? It was you, I say!"
"不是你喊的，難不成是我自己？我說肯定是你喊的。"
"No!"
"我沒喊！"
"Yes!"
"你喊了！"
"No!"
"我沒喊！"
"Yes!"
"你喊了！"
詞彙鞏固：
some one: "某人，有人"。注意和someone（somebody）"（某行業或某地方）重要人物，大人物" 的區別。例如：He was somebody in this town.他在這個鎮上算個人物。
when:在這句話裡是"在……情況下，如果"的意思。例如：When you consider that she has just studied English for one year, she speaks it very well. 如果你考慮到她剛學了一年的英語，她英語說得算是不錯了。
Woe to: "某人將要遭殃（用於警告某人要是做某事會有麻煩，幽默用法）"例如：Woe to anyone who smokes in our room.誰在我們房間裡抽菸誰倒黴。
fiery：在這裡是"易怒的，暴躁的。"He has a fiery temper.他脾氣暴躁。
ask a favour of sb：請某人幫個忙。例如：I want to ask a favour of you and take my suitcase. do sb a favour: 幫某人一個忙。例如：Could you do me a favor and tell him I can't make it? 你幫個忙告訴他我來不了好嗎？
an idea came into：有個主意。意思相近的短語：have an idea, get an idea,
give sb an idea, an idea occurred to sb 例如：An idea occurred to him while he was having breakfast.他吃早餐的時候突然想到了一個主意。
