雛菊、玫瑰與紫羅蘭,各種不同的花都有各自的象徵意義。英文中也有不少和花草植物有關的俚語,大家一起來拈花惹草吧~
1. Rose 玫瑰
■ coming up roses 漸入佳境;進展順利
They encountered a lot of difficulties at the beginning of the project, but now it’s coming up roses.
他們在計劃一開始的時候遇到許多困難,但現在已經漸入佳境了。
■ not a bed of roses 不盡如人意
You know, life is not a bed of roses. Things just don’t always go as planned.
你知道,人生總會有不如意的時候,事情不會每次都照著我們的計劃走。
2. Daisy 雛菊
■ fresh as a daisy 精神飽滿;容光煥發
Annie was exhausted after she came back from her business trip, but she became as fresh as a daisy after a good night sleep .
安妮出差回來後筋疲力竭,但好好睡了一晚之後她就變得精神飽滿。
■ pushing up the daisies 死;一命嗚呼
Some say that human will all move to another planet in the future, but I’ll probably be pushing up the daisies long before it happens.
有人說人類在未來會全部移居到另一個星球,但在那種事發生之前我大概早就一命嗚呼了。
3. Violet 紫羅蘭
■ shrinking violet 害羞靦腆的人
Jennifer is no shrinking violet. She feels completely at ease when speaking on the stage.
珍妮佛完全不是會害羞的人,她在臺上講話時感覺相當自在。
4. bud 花蕾
■ nip in the bud 防患未然
Cancers are hard to cure, but most of them can be nipped in the bud if they are detected in the early stage.
要治好癌症很困難,但大部分的癌症若能在早期診斷出來都可以及時治癒。
每天,不見不散,
