虽然绿色象征欣欣向荣
但绿色在汉语并不怎么受人待见
比如吓得脸都绿了，以及绿帽子……
不过“green”在英语中的待遇可不大一样

green girl
green girl 不能理解为“绿色的女孩”，这里跟短语“green hand”表示的意思是一样的，是“生手，没有经验的人，黄毛丫头”的意思。
例句：
She’s still a green girl. She doesn’t know how we operate around here.
她是新手，还不知道我们这儿怎么操作。
She is a green hand at such things.
做这样的事她是个生手。

the green years
green可以用来表示“没有经验、缺乏训练”，the green years 指我们常说的“青春年华”
例句：
Her memory is impeccable. She’s still in her green years. Not like me, I forget what I ate for lunch yesterday.
她的记忆力超好，她还年轻。不像我，连昨天中午吃了什么都忘了。
同样的，在“a green old age”里，green是指青春时期。所以该短语的意思就是“老当益壮”。
例句：
Fromthe appearance, we can see that the old man is still in a green old age.
从外表看，我们能看得出这位老人仍然精神矍铄。

green-eyed
从字面意思看意思是“眼睛绿了”，其实不然，它恰恰是我们中国人常说的“眼红”的意思，所以眼红大家可千万不要翻译成“red-eyed”。
这里的绿色green在英语中可以表示“嫉妒、眼红”的意思。
类似短语还有：green with envy，green as jealousy，green-eyed monster都是指“十分嫉妒”的意思。
例句：
I could be your green eyed monster.
我可以是你善妒任性的妖精。
His brother's success made him green with envy.
他兄弟很成功，这让他十分嫉妒。
