存世的幾枚太平天國早期大花錢，鑄工精整，文字挺拔有力，龍鳳等紋飾纖細雋秀，有專家認為大花錢是太平軍攻克蘇州後，諭令蘇州錢局精工製造。但此類大花錢從世存量看，目前在湖南省境內見數量比例為大，且此類特大型花線又系鎏金工藝的也僅有湖南省博物館珍藏的這一枚，同時是在株洲的廢銅倉庫中發現的，所以有的專家推測，太平天國的鑄錢局可能在湖南境內。究竟在何地，目前尚未找到確切依據，故待考，暫無定論。再者，從已經發現和公佈的太平天國花錢來看，目前還尚未發現有兩塊以上材質相同，大小規格和完全同模的，全部都是獨版獨模的。說明當時就不是批量鑄造，而是限量版的。

太平天國背“聖寶”花錢鑑賞：
這枚“太平天國聖寶”大花錢，錢面“太平天國”四字，對讀，是國號也是年號。我國古錢幣中，國號、年號並在一起的有“大夏真興”“大遼天慶”“大元至治”，但國號和年號合二為一的錢文，則只有“太平天國”錢幣。此枚“太平天國”花錢上的圖紋，正面四周是“二龍搶珠”，背面四周是“八寶”圖案。“二龍搶珠”圖案，也有稱它為“雙龍捧日”的。雙龍尾間圖紋，稱“壽山福海”，但亦有稱為“海水朝天圭”的，都是寓意吉瑞。This "taiping heavenly kingdomholy treasure" big money, money "taiping heavenly kingdom" fourwords, read, is the title is also the year. 錢背面四周稱“八寶”紋，也有稱“八吉祥”的，是指寶蓋、法輪、金魚、寶傘、妙蓮、寶瓶、盤腸、法螺八件吉祥之物的統稱，穿右穿左各鑄一鳳，與正面組合成“雙龍”;左右“聖寶”二字直讀，寶字“缶”部微有粘連。太平天國建都後的初期鑄錢，錢文都有“聖寶”二字。
