11.06 為什麼美國的超市不叫supermarket，那是什麼？

大多數英語國家的超市都是supermarket.但是美國人表示：我們不一樣！到了美國之後，從來都沒有聽身邊的老外說過supermarket這個詞。他們叫超市

grocery store，國人也形象統稱為Big Box，比如Walmart(沃爾瑪），Costco（好士多）, Sam's Club（山姆）。

特點是規模大、種類多，從食物到生活用品，家居電器和汽車配件等都可買到。一般分佈在城市的邊緣，交通方便，價格實惠。

比如說家裡食物都吃光了，牙膏、廁紙等這些日用品也用完了，我需要去超市買日用品和食物，我會說:I need to do grocery shopping.

購買食物和日用品統稱 do grocery shopping

Go shopping一般指去買衣服、鞋子等除食物和日用品之外的東西。

去grocery store買回來的東西統稱為groceries。

比如說我們從超市回到家，Anthony一般會讓我把東西放好，他去放狗出來，他會說 :

I'll go get dogs. You need to put groceries away.

Put groceries away指把每樣東西放到它們該被放置的地方，比如需要冷藏的東西要放冰箱裡。

需要注意的是，描述家裡已經有的東西，一般不用groceries這個詞，例如我不會指著食物儲藏櫃裡的東西跟別人說These are our groceries.
