第二艘航母
China's second aircraft carrier
China's second aircraft carrier set out from a dock of Dalian Shipyard, Liaoning province, for sea trials Sunday morning.
13日上午，我國第二艘航母離開大連造船廠碼頭，開始海上試驗。
➤自2017年4月26日下水(undocking)以來，第二艘航母建造工作按照計劃穩步推進，完成了系統設備調試(system and equipment debugging)、舾裝施工(outfitting)和相關係泊試驗(comprehensive mooring trials)，具備了出海試驗的技術條件。
➤2012年9月25日，我國首艘航空母艦"遼寧艦"正式交接入列(delivered and commissioned to the People's Liberation Army)。這艘航母(外殼)是1998年從烏克蘭購買，經過平臺改造(refitting)後，主要用於科研、試驗和訓練(scientific research, test and training)。

A Sichuan Airlines plane made an emergency landing in Chengdu on Monday after its cockpit windshield blew out.
14日，四川航空一架客機因駕駛艙風擋玻璃脫落緊急迫降成都。
➤由於突然失壓(sudden decompression)，飛機的飛行控制器遭到嚴重毀壞(flight control unit was badly damaged)。據報道，部分飛行控制零件被吸出窗外，駕駛員不得不手動操縱(fly manually)，最終安全地把飛機降落在成都機場。降落過程中，副駕和一名空乘(flight attendant)受輕傷，所有乘客平安落地。風擋玻璃破裂引發的事故時有發生，常由飛鳥撞擊或者遭遇雷擊(bird or lightning strikes)引起，但整塊玻璃破裂脫落實屬罕見(but it is rare for an entire window to come off)。事件原因正在調查中。

OneSpace Technology, China's first private rocket producer, declared the maiden launch of the company's OS-X rocket from a testing base in Northwest China a success Thursday.
我國首家民營火箭製造商零壹空間宣佈，該公司的OS-X火箭17日在我國西北某基地成功進行首次發射。
➤此次發射的"重慶兩江之星"為零壹空間OS-X系列的首型火箭，也是我國首枚民營自研商用亞軌道火箭(China's first commercial sub-orbital rocket designed and built by a private enterprise)。該火箭長度9米，總重7200公斤。
➤該火箭可靈活配置燃氣舵(gas rudder)、空氣舵(air rudder)、姿控動力(attitude control)等多種控制機構，並具有很強的控制能力，可以根據用戶的需求進行定製化設計，能夠滿足飛行試驗所需的各類複雜飛行彈道。
➤首飛實現了長時間臨近空間有控飛行(controllable flight)，獲取了大量真實飛行環境數據。值得一提的是，本次飛行試驗中，零壹空間開展了國內首次"減阻杆(drag-mitigating pole)"、"低成本能源(low-cost energy)"、"箭上無線通訊(built-in wireless communications devices)"等創新技術的研究，為簡化火箭系統設計、降低研製成本打下了堅實基礎。

Didi Chuxing, China's largest ride-hailing operator, said on Wednesday that it will suspend its hitch ride service from 10 pm to 6 am as part of its response to the killing of a female passenger. Passengers and drivers will receive safety warnings for orders near 10 pm.
作為對此前女乘客遇害事件的回應，我國最大的網約車運營商滴滴出行16日表示，22點-6點期間暫停其順風車服務。對於臨近22點的訂單，出發前會對合乘雙方進行安全提示。
➤近日，河南一名空姐被其所乘順風車司機殺害。滴滴稱，嫌疑人系違規借用其父順風車賬號接單(take orders)。滴滴承認其夜班安全機制有漏洞(its night safety mechanism was defective)，當晚嫌疑人接單時未能觸發臉部識別系統(the facial recognition mechanism was not triggered)。滴滴稱，案發前，滴滴曾接到關於該司機的一起言語性騷擾投訴(one complaint of verbal sexual harassment against the driver)，但由於客服5次通話均聯繫不上嫌疑人，後續未對投訴做出妥善處理。
➤16日，滴滴公佈對其順風車(ride sharing, hitch ride)服務的整改措施。滴滴順風車服務下線所有個性化標籤和評論功能(remove the features of personalized tags and comments)，順風車平臺合乘雙方的個人信息和頭像改為僅自己可見，外顯頭像全部為系統默認的虛擬頭像(default profile photo)。同時，每次出車前司機都要進行人臉識別(facial recognition)。在保障乘客安全方面，滴滴將把緊急求助(emergency call)功能提升至頁面的顯著位置，除了原有功能外，乘客還可一鍵撥打110、120、122及平臺安全客服等求助電話。
➤順風車只是網約車平臺提供的眾多服務之一，其他還包括專車(tailored taxi service)、快車(fast ride)、出租車(taxi hailing)、單車(bike sharing)、代駕(chauffeuring)、自駕租車(car rental)等。

The US birth rate dropped to new low in decades, according to preliminary numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, fueling fears of a "demographic time bomb".

➤美國可能面臨生育難題(America may have a baby-making problem)。2017年，全美育齡婦女平均生育1.76個孩子，較2016年的1.82下降3%，生育率創下自1978年以來新低(that's the lowest fertility rate the country has logged since 1978)。
➤專家將這一趨勢歸咎於兩個主要因素(blame two primary factors for this trend)：2008年經濟衰退(economic recession)的影響，以及上大學的成本越來越高(the increasingly crippling costs of going to college)。
➤經濟學家將嬰兒數量下降對未來勞動力的影響稱作"人口定時炸彈(demographic time bomb)"。當經濟萎縮時，人們往往選擇少生孩子(when the economy shrinks, people often opt to have fewer kids)。隨著時間的推移，沒有足夠多的年輕人長大，進入勞動力隊伍來取代工人，並支付社會保障(pay into social security)，與此同時，越來越多的老年人需要照顧，這將成為社會的大問題。
➤牛津經濟諮詢公司經濟學家博斯蒂揚奇表示，過去10年裡，出生率下降已對美國經濟產生嚴重的影響(falling birth rates have already had a crippling effect on the US economy over the past 10 years)，這種影響相當於將美國經濟的長期增長率拖低了0.7%(the impact is equivalent to a 0.7% drag on the US' long-run growth rate)。
