今天一起來看看大家在使用absent這個詞時，常常出現的錯誤。
先來了解一下absent
- adj. 缺席的；不在的；缺乏的
- vt. 使缺席
看看這兩個句子：
- She went to her father's office at ten this morning, but he was absent.
- He absented from the meeting.
註解：
1.第一個句子，absent常常表達理應出席或到場的活動等，卻沒有現身。這個句子中是想表達“她在早晨十點（上班時間）去她父親辦公室，卻沒有看見他”，這種情況下是指某人不在家或者辦公室，常會用“not in, not at home”等，例如：She went to her father's office at ten this morning, but he wasn't in.
當然如果要說他曠工或者偷溜出去不在辦公的話，可以使用absent，但這個句子的情形不太合適，如果換成領導或者朋友來他父親辦公室，發現他“理應上班卻偷溜”倒是可以的。
2.第二個句子，absent作動詞時，後面常常加反身代詞。所以上面的錯句可以修改為：He absented himself from the meeting.或 He was absent from the meeting.

- My father was on a long absence from Xi'an.
我父親曾經很久一段時間不在西安。（離開了西安）
2. My father was on a long absence in Xi'an.
我父親曾經很久一段時間在西安。（不在家）
