剑桥词典里对autumn years是这样解释的：
Someone's autumn years are the later years of their life, especially after they have stopped working.
所以
autumn years是指：暮年，晚年
特别是指退休之后
例：
He has nice company for his autumn years.
他晚年生活得到了很好的陪伴。
（company在这里是陪伴）
In his autumn years, James was able to enjoy his garden a lot more.
在James的晚年，他可以尽情地享用他的花园了。

autumn 和 fall 的区别？
很多人都知道
秋天有autumn和fall两种说法
只不过英国人一般把秋天叫作autumn
而美国人常会用另一个说法fall
当然也有部分美国人使用autumn
有的人以为autumn是传统说法
而fall是现代别称
其实fall的历史比autumn还要悠久
fall 的寓意是：秋天树叶凋零 fall of the leaf
而 autumn 来自法语 automne
虽然在15、16世纪已经进入英语词汇
但直到18世纪才被普遍使用
