名師課堂丨雅思口語話題—如何做個“文化”的人?

俗話說不怕流氓約你去打架,就怕流氓和你講文化,遙想當年你有一副英俊的臉遭受多少同齡同性同學的嫉妒,每個人都想用武力和你解決戰鬥,但你卻憑藉一嘴“有文化”的道理說服各種挑釁和流氓,豈不樂哉?實際上不僅在我們的日常英文口語中,能夠靈活使用“文化”的概念和講好“文化”都可以讓自己在談話間進退自如。

雅思口語中,“文化” (Culture)一詞的出現頻率之高堪比高峰期的廣州體育西,如常年考題之:

Describe a place with cultural meaning in your country or city?

Do you think that history(culture) is necessary in school subjects?

面對“文化”類的題目,我們需要做好的除了有足夠的文化底蘊以外,還要了解不同事物,地點,建築等他們背後的文化意義,以及熟悉一些相關的詞夥表達,讓自己成為真正在“文化”界屹立不倒的人,我們就以Part2長老題中的:

Talk about a building you like/ interesting building/ cultural building/ cultural meaning/ historical building為例,嘗試下如何通過嵌入“文化”的感覺,讓自己成為有“文化”的人。

我們試想下,其實任何的building都能夠帶上“社會文化”的色彩,因為不管建築物的有多少年的歷史,他們都屬於“過去式”,因此在表述的過程中,我們適當得運用通俗易懂的詞語,如:

historic building 歷史建築

historic site 歷史遺址

heritage building 古建築

cultural attraction 文化勝地

cultural site

文化遺址

cultural treasure 文化瑰寶

cultural heritage文化遺產

worth a visit 值得去看看

a memorable experience一次難忘的經歷

visual experience 視覺體驗

我們嘗試下能否運用簡單的幾組,串聯出一套表述具有歷史文化背景的建築物,注意句子間的口語基本連接,如:

It’s quite a historic building, not only because it has special meaning but it’s our cultural treasure.

必要時候注意口語表達中強調的真實體驗感,讓聽者身臨其境,宛如睹物思人,如:

Watching this architectural landmark closely is different from watching it on screen.

When you are walking around you can feel that the cultural outputs such as the photos or decorations have a strong sense of history, so I believe it’s worth for a visit since that should be a visual and memorable experience, you will be amazed by the skills of builders in ancient times.

除了文化背景以外,還可以以“文化產物”為主體內容,講述建築物體本身能夠做到產出的文化意義,配合我們以往一直強調的把例子或者經驗代入其中,則會讓聽者更加信服,即使沒有發生過也能說得讓人心服口服,不漏破綻,如:

and the people would really like to buy the related products. For example, When I was visiting it with my family last summer holiday(注意口語中類似的表達,符合我們小學作文中要求的描述事件四要素,即各種W的組合,時間,地點,人物,事情,往往一句話能夠讓人聽清楚要表達的所有要素,需要熟悉掌握), I bought quite a few postcards and sending them to some of my friends, also I took a photo there with my family members as I thought that could be a forever souvenir in my life.

很多同學苦惱的是,我們經常在滔滔不絕陳述完後,覺得自信滿滿,但是卻成為萬年“王老5”,總是在5分上下,實際上,除非我們能力超群,若不然則需要在話語話間能夠清晰地讓人聽出層次感和邏輯,顯得條理分明,因此我們可以用簡單的分層手法,如利用

Also the reason why there are so many people keen to go there is that most of the time it would organise different activities for public, and lots of them are for educational usage.

這種羅列Idea後,熟練加入PE:

I remember last week there was an activity displaying different remains and photos in this building and sending gifts, tell you what(自然使用真實情感插入短語), it attracted so many young students to be there as it was completely for free.

我們簡單通過一個不規範的例題引入了“文化”概念的輸入,但我們細細想想,除了building以外,“文化”的意義是不是能夠在其他的語境或者話題中運用?或者反過來思考下,存在的事物,發生的事情,過去的人,相當程度上,是不是都有一定的“文化意義”, 若我們能夠深入瞭解“文化”的周邊,並且運用合適的語言把道理表達出來,回到開頭的情景,一箇中國人吊打十個外國考官還能成問題?
