项目简介:PhD project will develop new ways of assembling structures, forming oligomeric architectures using metal ions and ligands
Supramolecular and self-assembly processes are used to great effect in nature to assemble complex and functional molecules such as proteins and DNA. Synthetic analogues show great promise for a wide array of applications, and the Nobel prize in chemistry has been awarded in 1987 and 2016 to key contributors to the field.
This project will develop new ways of assembling structures, forming oligomeric architectures using metal ions and ligands. These molecules will organise in a well-defined fashion, with precise arrangement of functional groups, and this will allow the development of applications. These will be centred around photophysical function (the formation of antenna systems and processes such as upconversion) and catalysis. While the project will break new ground, some indication as to its flavour can be found in our previous publications (for example, DOI: 10.1002/anie.201804745

项目简介:T lymphocytes are a critical arm of the adaptive immune system. The in vitro generation of T cells from human pluripotent stem cells provides an opportunity to study normal immune development, to model disease and to generate cells and products for therapeutic use. We have methods for making definitive human hematopoietic lineages from PSCs, enabling us to generate both B and T lymphocyte progenitors in vitro.
This project will involve generating T cells from induced pluripotent stem cells using in vitro and in vivo models. In vitro derived T-cells will be tested for their ability to interact with thymus stromal cultures in vitro and following transplantation into immunocompromised mice. Students will have access to established reagents, such as genetically modified PSC reporter lines, and highly evolved pluripotent stem cell differentiation protocols. Students will learn how to grow, genetically modify and differentiate pluripotent stem cells. The project will also involve techniques such as flow cytometry

Contemporary mathematical finance, especially in the aftermath of the financial crisis of 2007-2008, faces important challenges which include better taking into account of various market imperfections, thorough understanding of default risk, studying complex strategic interactions between agents, to name a few. Imperfections in the markets might come, for example, from taxes on profits from risky investments, or from the trading impact of a large investor on the market prices and/or on the default probability. Such imperfections typically lead to non-linearities in the pricing rules, and hence to non-linear financial market models. Addressing the above challenges calls for new developments in stochastic analysis and stochastic control.
