当为朋友搞个派对时，外国人常说 throw a party for...throw a party可不是说 “扔” 掉一个派对，实际上是指办个派对，hold a party太过于正式，在口语中很少使用。
例句：
We're throwing a party for Kevin's retirement next week.
我们下周要为凯文的退休准备一个派对
throw good money after bad
英语里 “烧钱” 也和throw有关，是throw good money after bad，意思是烧钱、花冤枉钱。
例句：
I bought a used car and then had to spend $800 on repairs. That was throwing good money after bad.
我买了辆二手车，之后不得不花800块去维修。真是花冤枉钱。
throw a fit
fit在这里并不是适合或健康的意思，fit做名词，有发作的意思，throw a fit意思就是大发脾气，相当于angry，也可以用have a fit。
例句：
He'd throw a fit if he knew what we were up to!
要是他知道我们在干什么会气疯了的。
throw in the towel
towel是毛巾的意思，当有人说 throw in the towel 时，可不是让你把毛巾扔了！实际意思是认输、放弃、投降。
throw in the towel是一个常用俚语，来自于拳击比赛，当教练看见自己选手必输时
就会往地上扔毛巾表示认输，类似的表达有throw in the sponge。
sponge海绵，是18世纪前拳击选手的清洁工具，扔海绵和毛巾都是表示放弃比赛、承认失败。
例句：
The game is not over yet! Don't throw in the towel so soon!
比赛还没结束呢! 别这么快就认输!
within a stone's throw
throw做名词时有投掷的距离的意思，within a stone's throw直译，就是投石可以到达的距离，引申为距离不远，在附近的意思，也可以用a stone‘s throw (away)。
例句：
We stayed in a small apartment just a stone's throw from the beach.
我们住在一间很小的公寓里，离沙滩很近。
