late, later, lately 和latest
1. late意为“迟”，“晚”，可用作形容词，也可用作副词。
These apples ripen in late autumn.
这些苹果晚秋才成熟。
He often gets up late.
他经常起床很晚。
2. later是late的比较级形式。 later还可解作“以后的”，“后来的”，相当于 afterward，常与动词的一般过去时或一般将来时连用，也可用于“一段时间＋later”结构。
The boy is often later for school than the others.
这男孩到校常比别人晚。
Half an hour later, she woke up and began to cry.
半小时后，她醒来，接着开始哭起来。
3. latest是late的最高级形式，表示“最近的”“最新的”“最迟的”。
He was the latest comer.
他是到得最晚的人。
His suit was cut in the latest style.
他的那套衣服是以最新式样剪的。
4. lately意为“最近”，意思上相当于 recently，一般用于否定句或疑问句，常和动词的现在完成或动词的一般现在时连用。
I haven't seen him Lately.
最近我没看到他。
