比如哪天一個外國人要你做什麼事，你回答，“l'll take care of it when l am free this afternoon.”
結果到晚上，你要是還沒有處理，外國人就會來找你。
你可能會很委屈，“我只是說我有時間的話會處理，又沒有說我一定會處理。”而其實在外國人眼裡，這句話並不是這個意思，而是，“你會有時間，你一定會處理。”
之所以會出現這種誤會，是因為我們對 When 的理解不到位。
when 是必然發生 （will happen）；if 是可能發生（might happen）
l'll take care of it when l am free this afternoon. （今天下午我有時間，我會處理。）——表示一定有時間
l'll take care of it if l am free this afternoon. （如果我今天下午有時間，我就會處理。）——表示可能有時間，可能沒時間
天氣放晴的話，我們就去展覽會場。
（×）We may go to the fair , when the weather is bright and sunny.
（√）We may go to the fair , if the weather is bright and sunny.
人不能主宰天氣，不能決定天氣是否會晴，所以要用if強調不一定。
如果我老了，我會和我的孩子一起生活。
（✘）If l am old , l'd love to live with my kids.
（✔）When l am old , l'd love to live with my kids.
人老是自然規律，必然發生。
