1.Dessert & Desert
Dessert是一種甜點，而the desert是指的是又熱又幹的沙漠。
2.Accept & Except
Accept意思是接受或是同意某事物，而except則恰恰相反，指的是排除的意思。
3.There & their
前一個單詞是地點副詞而後者是物主代詞。例如Their house is over there.
4.Principle and principal
Principle是信條、價值觀或是基本原則的意思，而principal意思是學校的校長，或是主要的事物。前一個單詞是個名詞而後一個是動詞，因此你可以advise someone by giving them good advice.
5.Borrow &lend
To borrow意思是借貸某物，而to lend意思是借出某物。 例如Can I borrow your car? Sorry, I can't lend it to you today.
6.Despite & although
這兩個單詞意思相近但是用法不同。Despite是介詞而although是連詞。例如 He won the race despite his injury. He won the race although he had an injury.
7.Affect & effect
前一個單詞是動詞而後一個是名詞，例如The effect of the war is enormous; it has affected all sectors of the economy.
8.Personal & personnel
你的personal詳細信息包括你的名字，年齡和國籍，而 personnel意思是公司的職員。
9.Assure & ensure
To assure某人意思是打消他們的疑惑或使他們安心，而ensure意思是確保(某事發生)。例如I assured him that you would be there, so please ensure that you get to the meeting on time.
10.breath/breathe
The young man held his breath.
那年青人屏住氣息。
The doctor told Charlie to breathe deeply.
大夫要查理做深呼吸。
兩者都有“呼吸”的意思，拼法僅有一個字母之差，用法也就不同。
