吳昌碩(1844年8月1日—1927年11月29日),初名俊,又名俊卿,字昌碩,又署倉石、蒼石,多別號,常見者有倉碩、老蒼、老缶、苦鐵、大聾、缶道人、石尊者等。浙江省孝豐縣鄣吳村(今湖州市安吉縣)人。晚清民國時期著名國畫家、書法家、篆刻家,“後海派”代表,杭州西泠印社首任社長,與厲良玉、趙之謙並稱“新浙派”的三位代表人物,與任伯年、蒲華、虛谷合稱為“清末海派四大家”。

他集“詩、書、畫、印”為一身,融金石書畫為一爐,被譽為“石鼓篆書第一人”、“文人畫最後的高峰”。在繪畫、書法、篆刻上都是旗幟性人物,在詩文、金石等方面均有很高的造詣。吳昌碩熱心提攜後進,齊白石、王一亭、潘天壽、陳半丁、趙雲壑、王個簃、沙孟海等均得其指授。 1927年11月29日,吳昌碩逝於上海寓所。

少年時他因受其父薰陶,即喜作書,印刻。

學顏魯公,繼學鍾元常;隸書學漢石刻;篆學石鼓文,用筆之法初受鄧石如,趙之謙等人影響,以後在臨寫《石鼓》中融匯變通。行書得黃庭堅、王鐸筆勢之欹側,黃道周之章法,箇中又受北碑書風及篆籀用筆之影響,大起大落,遒潤峻險。

吳昌碩篆刻從“浙派”入手,後專攻漢印,也受鄧石如、吳讓之、趙之謙等人影響,善於留白,或對角欹斜,氣象崢嶸,構圖塊面體積感極強。刀融於筆,篆刻雄而媚、拙而樸、醜而美、古而今、變而正。上取鼎彝,下挹秦漢,以“出鋒鈍角”的刻刀,將錢松、吳攘之切、衝兩種刀法相結合治印。

吳昌碩在繼承前人衝刀法和切刀法優秀成果的基礎上,融諸家之長,在大量的篆刻創作實踐中,不斷探索,將衝刀和切刀兩種刀法融合在一起,形成了自己的衝切結合的刀法。這種刀法靈活多變,或衝中帶切,或切中帶衝,甚至切中帶削……這種多變的刀法,把衝刀的猛利、挺勁、爽快與切刀的含蓄、渾樸融為一體,將書意和刀意表現得淋漓盡致,使他的篆刻刀法雄渾樸茂中寓秀逸的個性化特點凸現了出來。他與厲良玉、趙之謙並稱“新浙派”的三位代表人物。

曾任中國書協理事、中國書協創作評審委員會委員、山東書協副主席、中國國際友好聯絡會山東分會理事、濟南市政協常委、濟南畫院顧問、濟南詩詞協會副會長等職。生前系省書協名譽主席、山東畫院顧問。

現代中國書壇,魏啟後先生是我素來敬仰的一代大師。我曾兩次拜訪先生不遇,從而失去了面鈴先生教誨的機會。

書法藝術,人品高,學問富,下筆自然了無纖塵。高尚的人格,深厚的文化修養,是魏先生書法藝術的根本。他將人品、學問、才情、思想融入書畫中,故他的書法、繪畫格高韻美,超逸脫俗。

“乾坤容我靜,名利任人忙。”鍾因內空而聲遠,竹涉心虛方高節。魏先生曾在文章裡寫道:“‘世事滄桑有公理,心書心畫自可人’。澄懷見獨,惟求心安,筆墨適意,任性所為……”顯示了他不慕虛名,不尚祿利,淡泊閒適的良好心態。很多人勸他的書法漲價,先生不肯,他說:我的字就是要讓老百姓買得起。

原中國書法家協會理事、山東省書法家協會名譽主席、著名書法家魏啟後先生因病醫治無效,於09年12月9日12時5分在濟南逝世,享年90歲。
