據英媒報道，隨著身體進一步恢復，英國首相鮑里斯·約翰遜從他的療養地切克斯開始向他的政府發出指示，商議如何控制這場冠狀病毒危機。
他在上週的一系列電話中向他的副手多米尼克·拉布和高級助手發出了指令，隨後在週五與外交大臣和工作人員進行了三個小時的會晤，商議如何避免冠狀病毒爆發的“第二高峰”。
為了抗擊疫情，英國政府進行了一系列應對措施。作為重大改革的一部分，內閣辦公室部長正在設立一個新的小組，就封鎖對經濟和衛生的影響向高級部長提供諮詢，為政府決定何時以及如何放鬆某些措施提供參謀。該小組預計將包括財政部和英格蘭銀行的官員。
此前有人聲稱，政府的反應“過於依賴流行病學”，而對經濟和社會關注不夠。
據悉，英國高層的拉布、戈夫、蘇納克和漢考克現在每天晚上都在開會，討論關鍵問題，包括如何開始放鬆封鎖等等。
在衛生部承諾在月底前達到每天10萬次的檢測之後，一些政府工作人員被重新分配工作，落實增加檢測的措施。
英國財政大臣裡希·蘇納克指示英國商業銀行削減繁文縟節，以加快受封鎖影響的企業的融資速度。
這幾天，英國疫情仍在高位波動。據英國一項新的民意調查發現，上週民眾對政府處理疫情的認可度從68%下降到59%。
英國工黨領袖基爾·斯塔默爵士批評政府從疫情爆發到今天的應對措施。認為政府進行禁閉的速度太慢了，增加接受測試的人數太慢了，讓國民健康服務體系(NHS)工作人員獲得保障他們安全所需的關鍵設備的速度太慢了。他還呼籲政府開始“認真”準備退出封鎖措施，他說：“其他國家已開始制定路線圖，以便在時機成熟時取消對某些經濟部門和某些服務，特別是社會護理的限制。英國政府也應該這樣做。”

截至4月18日上午9時，完成460 437次檢測，17日檢測21 389次。
357023人接受了檢測，其中114217人檢測呈陽性。一天來檢測了15472人。
截至4月17日下午5時，在英國住院接受冠狀病毒檢測呈陽性的患者中，15，464人不幸死亡。
