在之前的推送中与大家分享过许多源于圣经的英语俗语，我们先来回顾一下这些俗语：A leopard cannot change his spots.
喻指：江山易改，本性难移。 You are the apple of my eye. 喻指：你是我的挚爱，或你是我最珍贵的人。Moses (人名）摩西，喻指：领导者，领袖。a land flowing with milk and honey 喻指：富饶之地，鱼米之乡。bone of the bone and flesh of the flesh 喻指：血浓于水，血肉相连或思想上的团结一致。the garden of Eden喻指：乐园;人间天堂。forbidden fruit喻指：破坏规矩或做了不应做之事而得到的满足。Babel 喻指：摩天楼，不切实际的计划、空想；嘈杂的地方。as curious as Lot’s wife此言喻指：好奇心过重。Noah’s ark 此言喻指：为逃避灭顶之灾所建造的处所。make bricks without straw 此言喻指：做无米之炊。firstborn of Egypt此言喻指：巨大的灾难，特别的不幸和哀伤。to sleep with one’s fathers此言喻指：与世长辞。
今天Catherine要与大家分享的是一则圣经故事----天地万物的创造(Creation), 并且会给大家详细讲解故事中的词汇和语法知识点，帮助大家进一步了解《圣经》。
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was lifeless, empty, and dark. Then the Spirit of God moved across the vast emptiness. He said, “Let there be light.”Suddenly light shone around the entire sphere (范围) of the earth! God looked at the light, and said,“That’s good.”He then divided the light from the darkness. He looked at the light and said, “I’ll call you day.” Turning to the darkness, He said, “And I’ll call you night.” So, with the day and the night, that was the first day.

1. Lifeless ['laɪflɪs] adj. 无生命的，缺乏生气的
E.g: The actors’ performances were lifeless. 演员的表演了无生气。
2. the Spirit of God 指耶稣
3. divide sth. from sth.: to separate two people or things 使分离；使分开
E.g: It is hard to divide a mother from her child. 很难将母亲和自己的孩子分开。
On the second day, God looked at the waters and said, “Be divided!” Immediately, the waters started to separate. Some went up and the rest stayed down. God looked at the waters that were above, and he looked at the waters that were beneath. Then he looked at the space that was in between the two and said, “I’ll call you Sky.”

E.g: The ship will remain outside Chinese territorial waters. 这艘船将继续停留在中国领海之外。
On the third day, God focused on the waters that were below the sky. He said, “Be gathered together into seas, rivers and lakes. Let dry land appear.” Suddenly land rose up from the waters. Rivers flowed off the land separating the hills and causing valleys. Lakes and seas were everywhere. God looked at the dry land and he looked at the seas and said, “That’s good.” Then He said to the land, “Bring forth vegetation! Let there be grasses, vegetables, herbs, and trees. All of them will have seeds, so that life may continue on.” Immediately plants started growing across the entire earth. There were grasses, flowers, and vegetables. There were trees of many different kinds. Some would become tall, while other would remain close to the ground. Some of the trees would produce different kinds of fruit. All this vegetation grew from that day forward, and they all had seeds so life could continue on.

2. valley n. 山谷
E.g: So the valleys that cut through the mountains are extremely fertile. 那些截断山丘的谷地都是非常肥沃的。
3. bring forth 产生；发生
E.g: These efforts will surely bring forth good fruit. 这些努力必将产生良好的结果。
4. vegetation n. 植物；植被
E.g: The inn has a garden of semi-tropical vegetation. 这家小旅馆拥有一个亚热带植物园。
