最近在看书的时候看到，翻译“几千人”。
然后脑子里自然就想到了 Thousands of， 看看答案，是Several thousand。
这里就来分析一下这两个词。

先来看看这两个词的意思：
1、Thousands of 成千上万、许许多多；数以千计的、几千
I get thousands of letters from girls saying that I inspire them.
我收到了无数来自女孩的信，她们说我影响了他们。
Thousands of people took to the streets to welcome back their hero.
成千上万 的人涌上街头欢迎他们的英雄归来。
They compiled thousands of case history to prove the relationship between smoking andcancer.
他们收集了数以千计的病历来证明吸烟与癌症的关系。
The oil was discharging from the tanker at the rate of thousands of gallons an hour.
石油以每小时数千加仑的速度正从油轮中流出来。
2、Several thousand 几千、数千名
这里要注意的是 thousand 不能加s，也就是不能写成 thousands。（在前面有具体数字或者several的时候，hundred 和 thousand 后面都不能加s）
Several thousand have signed up in the past year.
在过去一年内就有几千人加入这个组织。
All we can see is an indistinguishable blob which is supposed to represent a planet seenfrom several thousand miles away.
我们所看到的只是一个模糊不清的小圆块，据说那便是一个从几千英里以外看到的星球。
这样看的话，虽然两者都同时有“好几千”的用法，但是Several thousand只有好几千的意思，而Thousands of 更多时候是“许多、成千上万”的意思的。
与此类似的是，hundreds of 有“几百、许许多多”的意思
several hundred 是“好几百”的意思。
