看美劇學口語：They are such tools.他們真是聽話

Reverend Sykes: I swear before almighty god I won't reveal a word that is said here today. Now, what's on your mind？

我在上帝面前發誓，我不會把今天談話的內容洩露半句。你想說什麼？

almighty God 萬能的上帝

almighty [ɔl'maɪti]

adj. 萬能的；極大的

對於基督教徒，在法庭上作證時莊嚴宣誓：手按的是《聖經》，誓詞為： I swear by almighty God that the evidence I shall give shall be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.我在上帝面前發誓:我所作的證言證詞絕對真實

Andrew: Well, here's the thing. I lied to my parents. I'm not gay.

事情是這樣的，我欺騙了我父母。我不是同性戀。

Reverend (shocked): You're not?

本劇裡是上面講的第三種意思：易受騙的或被愚弄的人。安德魯稱父母親是tools

所以意譯：They are so tools.他們真是聽話/容易上當。

美國一部電影電影《渾身是勁》 Footloose裡的一句經典臺詞：

"I don't believe in what you believe in, but I believe in you"

我不信你所信的那些，但我信任你。

Andrew: Nope. Sorry.

不信。抱歉。

Reverend: (Sighs) Your mother's going to be so devastated. She's been praying so hard that you will be able to change.

Andrew: Well, that's the good news. I am going to change. Big time.

不錯，那是個好消息。我會改變的，很大的改變。

Big time.俚語:用來表達一種極端的情況，可以褒義也可以貶義：

巨大的成功十分,極度;歡樂時刻；非常嚴重糟糕的情況

big-time 連字符連接可用作形容詞和副詞
Mike hit the big time,he became very rich.麥克大獲成功,現在很有錢

She is no big-time operator!她不是幹大事業的人

Wow, the little girl's crying big-time! 喔，這小女孩哭得厲害。

Reverend: I...I'm not sure I follow.

我有點沒聽懂。

Andrew: You know what my mom said to me last night? She said that she doesn't think I'm going to heaven. Can you believe that?

Reverend: I'm sure she didn't mean to hurt your feelings, but the only way that you can know paradise is by repenting your sins.

Andrew: When she said that to me, suddenly it hit me how I'm going to get back at her. From now on I'm going to be so good. I'm going to eat my vegetables.

Andrew: I'm going to get good grades.
