材料13.

W: Mr. Taylor, as a fitness expert, could you tell us something about the importance of physical exercise?

M: We all need exercise; this is as true for young people in their teens as it is for adults from20 to 80. Regular exercise temporarily tires the body but then gives you more energy. This is why many people who suffer from general tiredness can benefit from taking more exercise rather than more rest, as long as there is no medical reason for their tiredness. Exercise makes you feel and look better and can also help you to lose weight because it burns up fat or food to produce energy. In the past, most people used to get enough exercise in their working lives to stay reasonably fit, But nowadays nearly everyone especially those who sit down most of the day should make a conscious effort to set time aside for regular exercise, If you are over4 0, or if you have recently had a serious illness, it is a good idea to visit your doctor before starting a regular exercise routine, The important thing is to know what kind of exercise is suitable for you, It is best to start with mild exercise and to build up gradually. There are some useful general rules For example, when you exercise, don't exercise until you become exhausted, exercise until you are pleasantly tired, Take short exercise periods of 15~20 minutes, Four or five times a week should be enough, And the best time for exercise is usually in the earlier part of the day, In the evening it may be better to relax.

[D] The summer is a good season for people to go in for outdoor activities.

25. Which is the third best season for creative thinking?

[A] Spring.

[B] Summer.

[C] Fall.

[D] Winter.

材料13.

If you are like most people, your intelligence varies from season to season. You are probably a lot brighter in the spring than you are at any other time of the year. A famous scientist, Ellsworth Huntington, concluded from the work among peoples in different climates that climate and temperature have a definite effect on our mental abilities. He found that cool weather is much more favorable for creative thinking than summer heat. This does not mean that all people are less intelligent in the summer than they are during the rest the year. It does mean, however, that the mental abilities of large numbers of people tend to be lowest in the summer.

Spring appears to be the best period of the year for thinking. One reason may be that in the spring our mental abilities are affected by the same factors that bring about great changes in all nature. Fall is the next-best season, then winter. As for summer, it seems to be good time to take a long vacation from thinking!
