Johnny Depp is one of the most famous American actors of his generation, with a wide range of film roles. This is perhaps one of the most interesting things about him — the varied and often strange characters he has played through the years. (18) A few years ago, Depp played the wild Mad Hatter in the classic children's story Alice in Wonderland. And Depp acted as the wonderfully strange Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series, one of his most popular roles. (19) He has received praise for many of these roles, although he has never won an Academy Award for Best Actor. Yet, Depp has been very successful in Hollywood, as he is one of the highest paid actors. (20) In fact, he has so much money that he even bought his own island! Once you see Johnny Depp's movies, his amazing characters will not be easily forgotten. (17)
