After-School Class 課外班
試聽分幾種情況，第一種是向大家做展示用的非常規課程，叫：
1. Demo class 試聽課
There's a demo English class at 2 pm today. Do you want to check it out?
今天下午兩點有一節英語試聽課。你要不要去聽聽？
第二種試聽是對常規課程的初次免費嘗試，叫：
2. Free trial session 免費試聽課
The piano class offers a free trial session. We can schedule a time.
鋼琴班提供一節免費試聽課。咱們可以預約個時間。
Lesson、session、course、class的區別：
Lesson：about content，指上課的內容；一對一的課程通常用lesson。
Session：about time，指上課的時間。
Course：a couple of lessons，多節課的集合。
Class：a group of people，通常指大家一起上的課程；class的意義最廣泛，也可以替代lesson、session，和course。
第三種試聽是到已經開課的班級中旁聽。
“旁聽”英文怎麼說呢？查字典會查到audit這個詞，但是它僅適用於大學，指學生聽一門課，既不用交學費，也不用參加考試，當然也不能獲得學分。

After I graduated, I audited some biology classes.
我畢業之後旁聽了一些生物系的課。
在幼兒園、小學和中學，孩子旁聽別人的課，用：
4. Sit in on 旁聽
If you don't like the reading class, you can sit in on the music class and see if you like that.
你要是不喜歡閱讀課，可以試聽一下音樂課，看看你喜不喜歡。
家長為了解孩子的學習情況，旁聽孩子的課程，也用sit in on。
Mommy is going to sit in on your math class tomorrow.
媽媽明天去旁聽你們的數學課。
Sit in on的兩個介詞in和on缺一不可，sit in your class指坐在某個班裡，沒有sit on your class這個詞組。
如果你想問孩子要不要試試某個課，非常簡單，用：

Do you want to try this class out?
你想試試這個課嗎？
6. Choose a class 選課
Which elective did you choose? Ceramics or arts and crafts?
你選了什麼選修課？陶藝還是手工？
Ceramics讀作[sə'ræmiks]。
7. Sign up for 報名
Should I sign you up for the taekwondo class?
我給你報跆拳道班嗎？
Taekwondo讀作 [tai'kwɔndəu]。
8. Tryout, audition 選拔
(1) Athletic: tryout 體育：選拔
Only the students who pass tryouts can join the school soccer team.
只有通過選拔的學生才能進入校足球隊。
Athletic讀作[æθ'letik]。
(2) Non-athletic: audition 非體育：面試
I passed the audition and I got the lead role for the school play.
我通過面試了，得到了校園劇主角的位置。
9. After-school class 課外班
You have an after-school class today so you'll be later than usual. I'll be able to pick you up after work.
你今天有課外班，會比平常晚。我可以下班以後接你。
10. Extracurricular activity 課外活動
He has too many extracurricular activities. We don't need to do that.
他課外活動太多了。咱們不用那樣。
11. Tutoring session 私教課、家教課
I scheduled a tutoring session on Saturday for you with Ms. Wang to improve your writing skills.
我給你和王老師約了一個週六的家教課，給你補補寫作。
12. Remediation class 補習班
Since your grades were not very good, I think you should take the remediation class.
你的成績不太好，我覺得你應該上上補習班。
Remediation class在美國通常是學校開的，可能在上課期間進行，也可能在課後，並不是每個學校都有這樣的設置。它是為學習跟不上的孩子設置的，和中國國情下為了學習更好而參加的補習班不是一種概念。
13. Elective 選修課
I've got baking as my elective this semester.
我這學期的選修課有烘焙。
Elective是課程的一部分，可能在上課期間進行，也可能在課後。
14. Gifted and talented class 特長班
The gifted and talented class has a chess competition next week. Are you looking forward to it?
特長班下週有個國際象棋比賽。你一直盼著呢吧？
在美國，gifted and talented class是很小一部分學生通過選拔可以參加的課程，包括各種學科的提高課程和一些興趣活動，每週一般2、3節。它和中國的為參加某一學科競賽而組建的長期班級，概念有所不同。
15. After-school care 託管班
Mommy and daddy will be very busy this month, so you have to go to after-school care.
爸爸媽媽這個月非常忙，你得上託管班了。
16. Summer camp 夏令營
This year's summer camp has started enrollment. Let's read the brochure together tonight.
今年的夏令營開始招生了。咱倆晚上一起看看宣傳手冊。
17. Elective subject examples 興趣班學科舉例
(1) Band 樂團
我們平時說band一般指搖滾樂隊（rock band），但是作為興趣班，它指的是管樂團（concert band）和軍樂團（marching band）。
(2) Choir 合唱團
它的讀音是['kwaiə]，不是['kwɔiə]。
(3) Voice lesson 一對一的聲樂課
(4) Dance 舞蹈
Dance作為學科名稱，不需要加ing。
(5) Drawing 畫畫
用鋼筆和鉛筆（pencil and ink）作畫，包括素描（sketching）。
(6) Painting 油畫
用顏料（paint）作畫，包括水彩（water color）、油畫顏料（oil paint）、acrylic（丙烯）等。
Acrylic讀作 [əˈkrilik]。
(7) Art 藝術課
包括drawing、painting、拼貼畫（collage）、扎染（dyeing）等各種藝術形式。
Collage讀作[kə'lɑʒ]，不要讀成college大學那個詞。

(8) Theater / Drama 戲劇課
Drama專注於表演，theater除了表演（acting），也涉及舞美（set）、燈光（lighting）、音樂（music）、聲效（sound）、服裝（costumes）等多方面技能。
