Luxury hotel gets the balance right
The Anandi Hotel and SPA Shanghai at 7 Linhong Road is now open. A member of the Leading Hotels of the World, the luxury hotel is dedicated to promoting well-being and a balanced lifestyle throughout.
The layout of the hotel is based on the traditional Tai-chi Eight Diagrams.
The guest rooms adopt a spatial "re-energizing" design featuring air-purification, multiple layers, glass insulation, negative ion earth beds, and energy flooring.
The hotel has 277 rooms, 48 suites and eight villas, all promote green technology amenities and products.
The innovative wellness center provides a new concept of integrated healing, delivering a collection of health and well-being solutions for overall body rejuvenation, mindfulness and energy balance therapies.
The hotel also has over 4,600 square-meters of indoor meeting and events venues and a 1,500 square-meters outdoor wedding lawn.
The in-house restaurants, café and the lounge at the lobby offer guests preferential treatment at present.

Immersive experience of Klimt
The Klimt Experience at the Hongqiao Art Center presents an immersive exhibition devoted to Gustav Klimt.
To mark the 100th anniversary of the Austrian symbolist painter, works of the most prominent member of the Vienna Secession movement are displayed through immersive virtual reality art.
In late 19th century Vienna, Gustav Klimt was one of the principal decorative painters of the sumptuous monuments on the Ringstrasse. At the dawn of the new century, he led the Vienna Secession, a movement that sought to break away from academic art.
Both famous and contested, Klimt paved the way for modern painting. The gold and decorative motifs that characterize his works are a symbol of this artistic revolution. The immersive exhibition includes the works that typify Klimt and made him famous — his “golden period,” portraits and landscapes.

The Hongqiao Art Center offers complete immersion in the works of art on show. A journey through his work features some of the Viennese Secession artist’s best-loved pieces projected into a vast space, using dozens of projectors.
Visitors are invited to watch the paintings come alive to the sounds of Viennese waltzes, in a fully immersive experience.
The exhibition will run through October 13.

Streets take new look
Fourteen streets in Changning have been repaved amid an ongoing campaign which started on April 15.
Xianghuaqiao Road, Jianhe Road, Quankou Road, Beiyu Road, Fuquan Road, Yuyuan Road, Xianxia Road W., Changning Road, Pingwu Road, Wanhangdu Road, Pingtang Road, Xinyu Road E., Cuijue Road and Ronghua Avenue E. are now equipped with new asphalt driveways.
Sidewalks along 26 streets, including Weining Road and Shuicheng Road got a new look at the same time.
Workers also dredged 420 kilometers of sewer pipes as part of the renovation, which continues until the end of October.

District to become exemplary zone of public cultural service
Changning is making efforts to become a national demonstration zone of public cultural service system.
The district was qualified to join the race in April as the top candidate throughout the country. The result will be published in mid-2020.
Changning has established a public cultural service association with 30 members, such as Shanghai International Dance Center, Shanghai Film Center, Liu Haisu Art Museum and Ajmide (Shanghai) Media Co and Shanghai Canxing Cultural and Broadcast Co to jointly promote the public cultural development of the district.
Changning will integrate historical and modern cultural resources and provide cultural events and activities to benefit people. It will create cultural clusters on Tianshan Road, Hongqiao Road, around Zhongshan Park, Hongqiao business circle and Xinjing Town.
The district will also include its cultural landmarks, youth centers, district children’s palace and workers’ cultural palace in its cultural network system and build more public cultural facilities. Moreover, each community cultural center will have its exclusive characteristics while public cultural services will be available in 10 minutes walking distance.

Fresh paint brings back the old world charm
The Qishan Village at 1032 Yuyuan Road is undergoing a facelift due to be completed by the end of next month. It’s part of a so-called “micro refurbishment” program on Yuyuan Road.
The renovation involves 15 buildings in the residential quarter which covers 22,000 square meters. Eleven of them are townhouses while four are detached villas.
The neighborhood was built in the 1920s, with characteristic Shanghai lane houses. It has a history as home to many luminaries. Missile and space scientist Qian Xuesen lived here when he returned from the US in 1955.
His old house is now a memorial to his legacy. Among other former residents are writer, translator and scholar Shi Zhecun, translator Fu Lei and pianist Gu Shengying.
As part of the facelift, the exterior walls of the buildings and kitchens inside will be upgraded. Overhead cables in the lane will be buried.
Workers will simply polish the antique floors and invert wood stair planks to try to preserve as much of the original decor as possible.
